Can you submit Mint set coins in their Mint Packaging?

This has probably been asked many times before, but can you submit coins to PCGS that have been cut out of mint sets, but are still enclosed in the mylar packaging? I am afraid to damage some very nice coins I would like to submit. Thanks, Mark

  • I was thinking that they charge extra if they're submitted like that . Is that wrong ?

I've cut them out along the mint set seams, then put the coin and cello inside a 2.5" flip. No problems with submission, no extra charge.

I've done it occasionally to help lend credibility to coins that were found with nice toning.

I've submitted proof sets intact. No surcharges at all (about 2 months ago)

  • I just did it with some 2002 SAC's. Glad to hear it's OKimage

Yes, they'll accept cutouts. Just be careful because I find that the cello can sometimes be deceiving and hide some flaws on a coin you normally might not submit. Like Supercoin, I only do it now when I need to add that air of creditbility to a unique coin. Good luck, Dave

Agree with dldallen. After marking best coins in mint sets, I review again before cutting out, then review a final time outside the cello. 5-10% get rejected when they come out.
