New Job - Working at a football stadium
In real life I am a California lawyer. With the work from home thing and kids off to college we decided to move to Vegas a few months ago. Loving it so far. Ok, well I am. Hoping my wife will soon love it as much as me. Been to some concerts, shows, ate at great restaurants, etc.... Good times! I thought it would be fun to get a part-time job at a casino or something like that to meet some people and give my wife a break from me being around the house all the time. I ended up getting a job at Allegiant Stadium.
My first event was a concert in early July (some EDM guy - Illenium - never heard of him). I was quickly promoted to supervisor level and usually have a team of between 4 and 8 ushers ("Guest Experience Teammate"). I have since worked a number of events as a supervising usher. I have been in the VIP and VVIP sections of Allegiant Stadium most every event. It's been great.
Have seen the Raiders (both overtime thrillers), UNLV, BYU/Arizona, Guns 'n Roses, etc.... I have been in VIP/VVIP every event until this past Sunday. I was moved to the southeast section of the stadium. So I was supervisor over about 7 sections in that corner of the stadium. You know what's in that corner of the stadium? THE BLACK HOLE! I walked down that aisle a lot but, for the most part, people were respectful and followed my requests. Pretty fun to be down there making friends with those fans. They are truly passionate fans!
I don't have any photos since we aren't allowed to use our phone but it has been really fun so far. Way more fun than my day job. Sunday I got there before 7:00 am for a 1:00 kick as the stadium opened at 10:00 and our supervisors meeting was at 7:30. I left there about 6:30 pm. I never took a break, and didn't sit down, but that was by choice as I was happy working. Got in my usual 20,000+ steps! I guess the bottom line is I recommend getting a job at your local stadium or arena if you have flexible work schedules. The pay is not quite what I make during the day but, as stated above, it is way more fun and at least at Allegiant I have found all my co-workers and upper management to be great to work with.
Bears coming up next home game, Rolling Stones in November, Pac-12 Championship game, Pro Bowl and HOPEFULLY a Raider's playoff game(s)!?
Some observations:
- Raider fans are as respectful as any others. The team is making a pledge that this is the Las Vegas Raiders and hoping to shed the old negative image of their fans. They are very strict with season ticket holders and will suspend or remove ticket holders rights.
- The Iowa State fans got many kudos for their excellent behavior and they traveled really well for their game against UNLV.
- It is truly a beautiful stadium - I encourage you to visit and pay the $50 for the stadium tour if you can arrange it (buy tickets ahead of time for that).
- Try to get seats with access to either the Twitch Lounge or Modelo Lounge as they serve an hour after the game rather than the 3rd quarter cut off and is the VIP area with less crowds. That is sections 131-137 and 109-115. Plus those seats are along the field rather than in end zones.
- I was on the BYU side at the U of A v. BYU game - the soda line was very long and the bars had just about nobody! The cocktail waitresses were also pretty bored that day. Lol!
- It's always a show in Vegas - Too Short and Ice Cube played halftime of the first Raiders home was the best highlight for me as a rap fan!
- Weekends in Vegas are awesome and even more awesome when you come see a game at Allegiant! Maybe you can make it a two-fer and catch a hockey game at T-Mobile while in town also!?

That's pretty cool. I've got friends that used to work shows/events like that, they all loved it.
Sounds like a really cool job!
dig the new gig, thanks for sharing
i never would have pegged you as a Too Short guy, but then again you could probably say the same about me
this was my jam in high school

you'll never be able to outrun a bad diet
Oh ya, loved that album. For me it was a college jam but for sure a jam.
I used to buy Dr. Dre mixed tapes at the Roadium Swap Meet in LA - where Dre, Eazy, etc. would mix them live occasionally. This was before NWA was a thing. We never saw them live unfortunately. Still have those tapes. I also bought some of the original Too Short tapes at the swap meet in Oakland but that was after Born to Mack had come out so not total og. I have all the Too Short albums in some form - on tape, vinyl or CD.
I saw Too Short in concert up in Sac in 2019. Front row. Was epic. Short, Cube, Snoop, Warren G, and the Luniz.
If you like Short have you heard about Mt. Westmore? If not, look it up. A new rap super group with first album to drop soon I think.
I was lined up to see Too Short a few years ago up in Petaluma (north of SF) but he got arrested for some probation violation, or some such story, so the show was cancelled. Lol.
I am probably one of the few 50'something year old, white, attorney, with 12" woofers and a 1,000 watt amp in the trunk!
You just never know!
I’m happy to hear that for the most part fans have been behaving themselves. Sounds like a cool gig. Not many jokes for your side job but a million for your day job.
What do you call a thousand lawyers at the bottom of the ocean?
"I spent 50% of my money on alcohol, women, and gambling. The other half I wasted.
@larryallen73 Im so happy for you. Sounds like you are doing great!! Good on you

Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......
I’d love to move to Vegas at some point, great write up!
We are hiring! Come on out!
