Tom Dempsey just rolled over and Matt Prater passed out. in an ironic twist, the 63 yarder by Dempsey that stood for more than 40 years was kicked against, you guessed it, the Detroit Lions. Prater made a 34 yarder today for Arizona and missed a 68 yarder. sadly, Dempsey succumbed last year to complications from COVID-19.
Just happened to be flipping channels and came across this. What an unbelievable kick from the greatest kicker in the history of the NFL! Considering this kick was a high pressure kick meaning the difference of a win or loss makes it that much better! Congrats to Mr Tucker on cementing his future HOF legacy, well done sir!
What is even more ironic is in that game... Saints v Lions and Dempsey's record FG is that Detroit had the lead... you guessed it 17-16... and lost 19-17. I believe Dempsey's may have been the last play of the game as well. There were afew seconds left in the Saints-Lions game and one of the networks reported the game as Final... I remember when that happened- I think Archie Manning was the Saints QB in that game. Manning was someone to watch back when he played for Ole Miss.
Edited... that Saints-Lions game was in 1970- Manning was still at Ole Miss so I stand corrected he was obviously not the Saints QB
Experience the World through Numismatics...it's more than you can imagine.
