Why? Unless you are hopelessly addicted to random coins, why buy something like this?
If you want to buy gold bullion, surely there are cheaper options out there.
Numismatically, this "coin" has 0 history and 0 future (except that tied to the price of gold).
I am obviously shouting to myself, but you have complained about not being able to buy Hubbard's 8Rs that you really wanted (because the price went too high?). Or the Cape Coral coins that you tried for and dropped out before you were even competitive.
You could have probably stretched further on those coins you really wanted had you had the financial buffer by not buying all the non-interesting junk you routinely buy.
It's perfectly ok to have a "side collection" to keep you occupied between purchasing opportunities for the main collection. But if the side collection takes all the funds for the main collection, that becomes problematic.
Obviously, this is strictly my opinion from the school of hard knocks. I'm sure you will continue to do what you've always done.
I understand your thoughts and appreciate them .
If you saw my ‘collection’ in its entirety you would see I’m an addict 🤓
A sick one at that !!
Money is not the issue …..
…..and I did not know it was Hubbard’s coins in that Morton / Eden auction …😏
Probably the only guy in the auction room who did not know .
As far as the Cape Coral European and Latin America collections … I bought some nice coins .
I saw them in hand ….

Many of your non-core coins are quite beautiful. I do remember well the gorgeous Turkish gold that you posted and sold. Shame you sold that one instead of this one though. That seemed like a keeper.
You may not have known those were Hubbard's coins, but you did know the auction was something special. And you properly prepared for it (by having an expert set of eyes view the coins in addition to yourself). I know the feeling of thinking a coin is going crazy and getting cold feet in the bidding, but in the end, I've always regretted not going to the moon on coins I really wanted and needed for my core collection, especially when my underbidder is a dealer! After all, it's the great coins that make the collection. The rest are just along for the ride.
I was the beneficiary of your dropping out too soon at Cape Coral. I bought the 1889 Paraguay Peso in 66 with you as the underbidder. I felt I got it for a great price, so I don't know why you dropped out. But thank you!
That was a great coin !! Congratulations 😀
I love crowns and will be buying more 😎

Btw I bought some REALLY great 8 reales at the Mexican auction and for those who are not sure of their grading please do yourself a favor and hire a pro to
review the coins you want to buy .
I have been collecting 60 years and consider myself better than average grading coins however I still hire pro’s
like Mr Eureka and I did so at the Mexican sale ! 👍

Modern NCLT at its worst.
In case it isn't obvious (it hasn't been mentioned in this thread yet), this is actually two coins: one issued by Western Samoa (now known simply as "Samoa"), and one by Kiribati. At the time these coins were made, these two countries lay next to each other on the map, but on opposite sides of the International Date Line. The "crack" separating the two coins is in the shape of the International Date Line.
Or at least, this is the shape the Line was prior to 1994. In 1994, Kiribati unilaterally moved the Date Line eastwards to go completely around all of its territory, so that the country would no longer be split in two by the Date Line. The new boundary made the easternmost islands of Kiribati "the first place in the world to welcome the new millennium", while Samoa was one of the last countries - which is why they heavily promoted these coins. But technically, the coins contain an "error" in that the shape of the Date Line is incorrect.
And in 2011, Samoa also shifted the Date Line eastwards, to put itself on the same calendar day as New Zealand and Australia (its biggest trade partners), rather than Hawaii and America. American Samoa remains on the eastern side of the Line. But this does mean that Samoa and Kiribati are no longer on opposite sides of the Line.

Apparently I have been awarded one DPOTD.
Interesting thing about this coin that Russian words "war" And "peace" have mistakes with letter N):)
Happy with this grade outcome
