Ok folks, the 2021 NFL season kicks off this week, and I can't wait, I've been looking forward to this for months. Here are some of the storylines I'll be following closely this season.

The Rams and Lions traded quarterbacks this offseason, I'm looking forward to seeing if Matthew Stafford is the missing piece that the LA Rams needed to get over the hump and get back to the Super Bowl, I'll be keeping a close eye on Stafford and the Rams.

  • doubledragondoubledragon Posts: 23,269 ✭✭✭✭✭

On the other side of the Rams and Lions trade is Jared Goff, will he be able to finally lead the Lions to the playoffs?

  • doubledragondoubledragon Posts: 23,269 ✭✭✭✭✭

I believe that Patrick Mahomes said something about the Chiefs going undefeated this season, there going to have to be at the top of their game. Can they do it?

  • doubledragondoubledragon Posts: 23,269 ✭✭✭✭✭

And what about the GOAT, can he lead the Bucs to a repeat, I'll be watching the Bucs very closely.

  • doubledragondoubledragon Posts: 23,269 ✭✭✭✭✭

No, no sir, I've never heard of the Carolina Panthers, no sir, never heard of them!

  • doubledragondoubledragon Posts: 23,269 ✭✭✭✭✭

Dak is back from a season ending injury last year, can he crush Steve's Eagles and take dem' boyz to the playoffs?

  • doubledragondoubledragon Posts: 23,269 ✭✭✭✭✭

And what about stevek's Eagles, is Jalen Hurts the real deal, or will stevek be forced into a life of bird watching. Steve, this is what it sounds like when doves cry.

Will the Redskins Washington Football Team be a sleeping giant with Fitzpatrick at QB? After all they made the playoffs last year with a pretty dismal offense.

The talk of the league ( besides of course, the Cowboys) is Mathew Stanford. The Rams have finally found a QB that McVay can open up the playbook and a QB that gets it. With Stafford the Rams will contend for the Super Bowl. Write it down. You heard it here first.

I'm looking very forward to watching McVay and Stafford together in LA, they have a real chance this year.

Next up, Carson Wentz, can he and his buddy Frank Reich revive his career in Indianapolis, or are his best days long gone?

And what about the young superstar Josh Allen, can he get the Bills a Super Bowl win?

  • doubledragondoubledragon Posts: 23,269 ✭✭✭✭✭

Those Bills fans are hardcore, they start jumping through tables at an early age.

  • doubledragondoubledragon Posts: 23,269 ✭✭✭✭✭

And what about the Steelers, is Stephen A. Smith right, is Big Ben washed up?

  • doubledragondoubledragon Posts: 23,269 ✭✭✭✭✭

    Ahem, ahem, Steve.

  • doubledragondoubledragon Posts: 23,269 ✭✭✭✭✭

After throwing a big tantrum in the offseason, will Aaron Rodgers finally be able to lead the Packers to the promised land, or will Green Bay fans be sipping Cry Baby 12 when their team comes up short yet again.

What about Andy Dalton, can he be the red rifle that the Bears desperately need, or will he turn out to be a broke down BB gun?

  • doubledragondoubledragon Posts: 23,269 ✭✭✭✭✭

And what about Kirk Cousins, will he have a good season, or is he overrated?

  • doubledragondoubledragon Posts: 23,269 ✭✭✭✭✭

You got Justin Fields, and you're going with.

i'll add a storyline. everyone here knows (or should know) that i'm high on Murray. been watching him since his days at Allen HS and he has always been the best player on the field...........and the fastest. i've watched a ton of his games and i have yet to see anyone run him down from behind on any level. what most people don't realize is that he was on pace to break fantasy football last year before he hurt his shoulder in week 11 and stopped running. had that not happened, he would have easily eclipsed 1,000 & 15 from rushing alone.

this season is his 3rd -- the year when great QBs make their greatest strides. i'm banking on that being the case with him in 2021. the Cardinals have upgraded all around him -- James Conner behind him, Pro-Bowl center Rodney Hudson in front of him, A.J. Green and speedster rookie Rondale Moore to compliment DeAndre Hopkins on the outside........the stage is absolutely set.

I'm definitely looking forward to watching him, he is a phenomenal athlete.

Another storyline is the Raiders and Jon Gruden, can he put together a winning season and get them into the playoffs? I seriously doubt it, you should have stayed in the booth at ESPN Jon!

  • doubledragondoubledragon Posts: 23,269 ✭✭✭✭✭

And what about the Jaguars and Urban Meyer and Trevor Lawrence, will the genius college coach be able to succeed in the NFL, will they have success this year? I say yes, they will have a better record than last season's 1-15 team.

  • doubledragondoubledragon Posts: 23,269 ✭✭✭✭✭

And the stinky New York Jets, will their number 2 draft pick Zach Wilson be able to give them a fresh start and get them a winning season and a possible playoff spot?

  • doubledragondoubledragon Posts: 23,269 ✭✭✭✭✭

Man, I was just thinking, the Jets last won a Super Bowl in 1969, it's been a while.

  • doubledragondoubledragon Posts: 23,269 ✭✭✭✭✭

How about the Cincinnati Bengals, my guess is the Bengals fans will be doing what they do at the end of every season....

That's what I'm hoping for. Goff is a very, very good quarterback. One of the best now playing. But.......he's not Cam Newton or Tua or Jalen Hurts or Deshawn Watson .....so........whatever. I hope the trade works out for both teams but in the long run the Lions got the better of the deal. Goff is good. A proven winner. As for the others.......Hype is hype.

It should be interesting to see if he can get the Lions back to the playoffs, he showed a lot of toughness last year with his finger injury.

Yes, it will be fun to follow the Browns this season, Baker really proved he belongs last year, I expect him to have a great season this year. I'm particularly interested in their rivalry with the Steelers!

  • doubledragondoubledragon Posts: 23,269 ✭✭✭✭✭

Of course if the Browns have a bad year, we could end up seeing the other Baker Mayfield, the one that looks like he cleans toilets at Paddy's Pub for a living.

Also looking forward to watching Justin Herbert and the Chargers, he should have a great season, he showed he can really play last year.

These are the storylines I will be following closely this season, I'm ready for some NFL football, let the games begin!

In 2018 the Chiefs came to L.A. to play the Rams. Final score 54-51. Rams won. It was by far the best performance by TWO quarterbacks and the BEST game I ever saw. Jared Goff and Mahomes were unreal that night. Goff is the real deal. Believe it or not. It will all shake out in the end.

Yea, he is The Lovely Mrs. Hydrants favorite. The kid has potential.

Can the Chiefs go 20-0? That's going to be difficult after starting the season 0-1.

If the Cardinals finish .500 I believe Kingsbury will be unemployed very shortly after. They spent the money on veterans in a win now situation and if they don’t , we’ll you aren’t getting rid of Murray. I’d like to see him take a step forward but I have my doubts. His skill set is unquestioned but I don’t think it makes a great NFL quarterback. Both Jackson and Murray have a ceiling and only have about 5 years to prove me wrong.

Obviously the Patriots especially with Mac Jones leading the team will be my Maine focus. Other interests will be seeing how the high drafted rookie QB’s do, Tom Brady.

Kingsbury is the one i'm not sold on. i still don't know what the allure was. he must have killed the interviews, because there's nothing on his resume that warrants him being an HC in the NFL. i agree -- if he doesn't churn out a winning record i think he'll be gone. (AZ over 8 was one of my preseason picks.)

What surprises me he couldn’t win in college a d he was hailed as this genius. When Kingsbury gets the axe Murray may find his feet under another coach. I’m with you, I’m not sold on anything he does. He made no adjustments the last 7 games last year. The definition of insanity, well that’s my take.
