Grade opinions on this freshly pulled Bird/Magic RC?!

Pulled this out of a pack last night! Sorry for the pics, don't currently have a functioning scanner... the white is dust/scratches on card saver, the black ink is on the card (which is common for this card/set). Centered a tad right, but sharp corners and edges.

Would love the opinions of the experts... just to have an idea of how (and when) to send it in for grading

Congrats on a great pull! Judging maybe a 7,that top right corner stands out a bit. Is it just me or do the two bubbles/spots behind Larry's left knee look like some cartoon eyes lol.

5-6 due to the centering and white print dots.

  • The way the grading is going.... I'd say 7. But it's totally possible for an 8

quite a bit of tilt to the card on the front...in addition, an array of various print spots...I'd guess 6, maybe 7 on a good day

    I say 7, perhaps a 7.5. Good luck!

    seven

Most likely a 7...an 8 on a good day due to centering. Nice card!

I have a graded 7, yours looks like a 6 to me. Would help to take it out of the holder to see how sharp the images of the players are. Bird looks fuzzy, Wright is not sharp. Centering is not bad. I also have a raw copy that I have not had graded to compare.

PSA under-grades everything vintage now so good luck.

It would be an 8 if it had no tilt, no appendage on the top right corner, and not as much print schmutz on the front. It's a 7 at best, so a $200 sub all day long.

I agree with everyone that its a solid 7. The tilt and top right corner, I also see a pd on the left side.

  • handymanhandyman Posts: 5,347 ✭✭✭✭✭

PD in Magics face might bring it down. Solid card none the less and the best pull possible!

Thanks for the opinions... I was hoping it would be 7ish. I do have two other raw ones... one I think is an 8, another that might just be a 5/6. I also have a PSA 9 that I posted about a few years back.

I'm primarily an unopened collector, so I have minimal experience with grading cards. But I'll get back photos and some out-of-sleeve photos as well... might post pics of the other two I have, I truly appreciate the different perspectives from the members.

Hope everyone is having a great Labor Day weekend!

  • I would go with a 7 for sure. If the upper right corner is just "hair" hanging off be sure to pull it off if it is not going to pull off the corner.

    All should be graded.

Mis cut now or really close to the gum wave effect. Changing my guess to miscut maybe

  • baz518baz518 Posts: 1,239 ✭✭✭✭

It's not miscut, the "waviness" you see is the natural bowing effect of each panel (similar to the vending curl for full, un-perfed cards). It could also be exacerbated by any anti-shake post image processing done by my phone. But all three of these are perfectly rectangle when sleeved and match up perfectly with my PSA 9. The third one shown actually came from the same box as my PSA 9, just has a little of that blank ink... always thought it had a shot at an 8. 🤷‍♂️

  • Nice pictures. I like them all, to be honest.

All have a small degree of being off-centered. Kind of hard to say too much.

I would love to have that 9, or your luck with pulls.

Now that they've lowered the Express service price, I will send it in soon. Might send in the last one shown as well, which is from my raw set. I prefer raw sets, but after seeing grading standards change and the costs skyrocket... I figure I might as well get the key cards graded soon.

  • I'm going with an 8.

  • baz518baz518 Posts: 1,239 ✭✭✭✭

Looks like it's going to be a 7. Still in QA2 so no idea when it will ship, but I'll post pics of it slabbed when I get it back. Took me a while to send it in, it was received 12/17. Thinking the ink smudging on Magic kept it from a 7.5? Still happy and in line with expectations... I think it also confirms my others as being an 8 and a 5/6.

Congrats. A very nice looking 7 for sure.

I would think 6-7 if they'll grade. best of luck!

if you got a 7, you caught the "good day" :)

I would recommend keeping the card intact and not cutting along the dotted lines.

Did they provide the Cert # for the 7? If so they might have the pictures posted when doing the cert lookup.

Your other 2 cards I’d agree on the 5/6 for the top card. The bottom card might have a shot at an 8, but today’s grading standards might limit it to a 7.5.

Nice cards and congrats on the pack pull!!!

Thanks! I forgot about the scanning for Express Level, I'll post that when it's available. The grade hasn't officially popped, I used the set registry trick when I saw it in QA2 this morning. I'm guessing it will pop and ship in a day or two.

  • baz518baz518 Posts: 1,239 ✭✭✭✭

Still not in hand, but I think it ended up in the correct holder. I'll be sending the other one in soon as it's definitely better than this one in all regards. Pics are PSA's SecureScan images.
