That was very interesting to watch. I’m a pilot (single engine, land, instrument rating and commercial drone pilot). I never realized they go through the maneuvers mentally before actually doing them but imagine it is helpful to do that type of visualization. I guess it would be something helpful to do prior to practicing instrument approaches. Not something birds have to do.

USAF Thunderbirds air show. Pilot looped too low. Plane, an F-16, is about to go in belly first. Pilot ejected just before crash and survived.

While sitting on the roof of our hangar shop at Hahn AB, Germany in 1971 on Armed Forces Day watching the Thunderbirds put on a heck of a show, a shop mate after looking at all the parked cars in the medium between the active runway and the taxiway, said, "My gosh, there are 1825 cars parked out there," When asked if he actually counted them, he said, "Lord no, I counted the wheels and divided by four." True story.
