PCGS New World Variety Report August 2021

With the volume of coins submitted at PCGS, it is not uncommon for new significant world varieties to be found and attributed. While in the past PCGS has simply made a new coin spec number for these discoveries, certified them, and added them to the census, there has been little to no fanfare for publishing them. However, we endeavor to share our appreciation for these varieties with those who cherish them as well. It is with this we hope this new variety report will be a popular recurring segment.

The coin above is a Tibet Rupee from (1902-11). The doubling on this variety is most notable on the face, showing doubling on the nose, lips, eye, and ear. With the increased collector base and recent study of coinage from Tibet, this will surely be a popular variety for collectors.

As a variety collector and someone who's gone through the process of getting new varieties added to the population - kudos! Looking forward to seeing these on regular basis!

While this is welcome news, seems there is some attention not that is just needed in this area, but should be required if there is going to be any noticeable improvement given the neglect of most of the TPG services as to varieties. Will PCGS finally recognize the Churchill Crown that features doubling at Churchill's portrait? While I may currently own the finest known example, I cannot claim credit for its discovery which was nearly 40 years ago. And what about the varieties that clearly exist with the 1951 Crown? Seems there are several varieties that have gone unnoticed or thinking the worst, few seem to care about them... but nonetheless... they are present.

Experience the World through Numismatics...it's more than you can imagine.
