Random Card: What Happened To... Ed Johnston #23, Topps NHL 1973-74 Season

I was cleaning the home office and found this card that had been hiding after the cats scattered a pile I was getting ready to donate.

Took a look at the back of the card and the cartoon states, "Ed hopes to become a professional golfer some day."

Since the Internet was literally just a few inches away, I decided to find out.

Well, he never did become a pro golfer but he did have a long and distinguished career in the sport, serving as manager and GM of several teams during the 1980s. 1990s and 2000s. He retired from the sport in 2009.

I grew up outside Pittsburgh in a town with a random 3 hole golf course in the next town over. When I was 10 or 11, my Dad and I were about to tee off on the 3rd hole when my Dad says, "Hey, Eddie Johnston is finishing up the second hole. Want to wait and see if he wants to join us?" We waited, he played with us, and I got an autograph. Can't remember for the life of me if he was any good, though.
