There's a very nice 1935/34 Boone commemorative half on CRO's website. PCGS MS64. It has a gold CAC sticker and it's in a rattler with cert. number 1101xxx (rattler numbers started at 1080xxx, so this would be among the first 22,000 graded). Price is $595. That's 60%+ higher than the CAC price guide for MS66 and 70% higher than the PCGS price guide for MS66+. Say what you will about the premium accruing to the holder and the gold sticker, but imagine the price without either.

Successful BST transactions: EagleEye, Christos, Proofmorgan,
Coinlearner, Ahrensdad, Nolawyer, RG, coinlieutenant, Yorkshireman, lordmarcovan, Soldi, masscrew, JimTyler, Relaxn, jclovescoins

Now listen boy, I'm tryin' to teach you sumthin' . . . . that ain't no optical illusion, it only looks like an optical illusion.

My mind reader refuses to charge me....

Sounds like they're buying a sticker and not a coin. It's insanity!

Yes, that "Bean", certainly makes a world of difference! Perhaps, the only sticker on slabs that really does? CaC, should negotiate with our Host and make it official. ;)

Why are you surprised? Look at what people want for coins in P01 slabs. Secondarily, do you really trust any price guides at this time? Many coins have been trading for significant premiums this summer.

Need only look at GC results for this past Sunday in Half Eagles. The Gold CAC, OGH prices were way up there.

I wasn't surprised at all, it's just a reaffirmation of the reality in the market today.

Odd you should mention that. I was following the 1846-C half eagle PCGS AU50 OGH gold CAC. I think it went for $11.8K with the juice ($11.6K if paid by check). That's against a PCGS price guide value of $7,500 in AU53, $8,250 in AU55, and $10,000 in AU58.

I must admit myself. I did make these recent purchases at the ANA Show with that only in mind! Did not have any in my collection until now. Very happy I pulled the trigger. <3B)

Not bad for a coin that has a $5750 guide price and $7500 at 53. I was watching that one, the 59-D, the 38-D, 49-Cand 55-C. All got too rich for my liking.

For gold anyway I think the price guides are lagging a great deal. I do think people are a bit gold sticker hunters. While the gold just means in CAC’s opinion that it could grade higher on the next regrade people may be thinking it can go for several over. Only an in-hand examination can tell for sure.

Lol. Yeah, what an awesome coin. Esp. having the bean attached. Yes, Ben is a swell guy. His coins are second to none. Ben's even more pleasant in person. Thanks again. ;)
