Players who don't play in the AllStar Game should be fined

In my opinion it is part of their job. If they were to refuse to play a regular game then they would be fined. They should be fined for doing this if they play the game before and the game after the all star game

I dissagree 8Kobe....I think it's a privilege to play in the All-Star game..to not play it just shows that the players are stuck up....If there to good to play in it then I dont think they deserve to play at all.....

They should still fine them. I would say that $15000 would be a nice round number for them to be fined.

  • I agree yanyak, but can you guys blame them for not wanting to play in a game that would strictly benefit Bud Selig?
Have traded with Ski (x2), Sporto, Donniebaseball, heavyd (x3), cardnyou, sportsguy, chayne2, samsgirl, Vittleboy, JRCCrum (x2), and Bud (x2).
  • The should benefit the fans also...

Personally I think that moost of the baseball teams will fold if they strike through next year. They need to contract anyways

I don't think they should be fined, at least not pitchers, players like Pedro and Randy are in the midst of races for 1st, they would rather help their team than risk injury in the All-Star Game...if Freddy Garcia backed out of the All-Star game because he would like to prepare for his next start and not risk injury, I would be behind him 100%, because I would want the Mariners, as a team, to do their best....
  • In a game that's about endurance of the heat for 162 games I don't blame any player for passing up the honor of playing in the All Star game...Even the shortest rest may keep them from a stint on the DL which is more agitating to me than seeing my favorite players pass on the All Star game (DL = 15 days minimum, resting during the All Star Break = 3-4 days)....

liveandlearn, i agree....while i love, as much as the next guy, to see the greatest superstars duke it out, the all star game, is a joke...its just supossed to be a chill out weekend...if a player would rather spend it with his family, then go for it, theyre always on the road, and im sure its tough for them...i know they make a lot of money, and i dont feel bad for em at all, but if they want to sit out this optional attendence game, then they should be able to.

Someone said that all players care about is money. So what! It's a business, there not working there a$$'s off for laughs. They don't train year round to play t-ball. It's for the cash, nothing else. Thats how it is for the big 3(bb, bkb, and fb). To say you play for something other than money is BS.

8kobe-I don't think any teams would fold from a year long strike. At the very most 1 or 2.

I could care less if the MLB fined the players or not. There aren't very many major league caliber players, so you might as well enjoy them whenever they play. No reason to fine them for not playing, they were choosen to play, they didn't ask to play.

Hope you don't think Griffey doesn't play just for money...he is a spoiled S.O.B. that bled the Mariners dry a few years back...oh well, that trade sure came back and bit Cincy in the azz, now didn't it? image
  • I mean c'mon 8kobe. People that play baseball, it's a job, they CHOOSE to do it. I understand it's not all about the money, but it's their job. Would you go to work and not get paid??? (At least I don't think they get paid.) Some people want to spend more time with their family, some are injured, some want to rest their arms, etc., etc. Would you want to get fined if you were injured or took days off to spend time with your family?? That's what I got to say.

P.S.-This is my first post. Wut up all?

  • Saying you're saying that because "The Big Unit" Randy Johnson pulled out he should be fined?

The reason he pulled himself out is to be ready for his next start. Which happens to be their first game of the 2nd half of the season.

    I disagree with your opinion.

i think that baseball and basketball should have salary caps. its helped football a lot, and you wouldnt have a buncha stuck up players. it would help out everybody except bud selig(or whatever the hell his name is). that is no excuse to not play though, most people dont like who they work for, but they make a HELL of a LOT MORE $$$$$$$$$ than we do.
  • SlipKnot515SlipKnot515 Posts: 1,354 ✭✭
Basketball DOES have a salary cap....
  • I had to add my 2 cents, I agree and disagree, The FANS vote these guys in and if they don't play for reasons other than injury I think they should be banned from the AS Game for three years.

If the league goes on strike, no stats, no bv, no trading, no collectors willing to fork over the cash for cards. One good point though, it could drive the price of cards down while they are on strike.

Last point, if you boycott, you must include the tv and radio broadcasts to be fully effective. I read in the USA Today yesterday, "who can feel sorry for a guy that drives to a pickett line in a Ferrari?"

slip- I dont think griffey is playing for the heck of it, of course he's in it for money but im saying some players arent. Just being in the Majors is enough...Im not saying money isnt important, I just think that SOME players cherish playing baseball more than money. Look at Larry Walker. This Man has the biggest Heart when it comes to baseball...I feel that he would never quit just cause he's not mkaing a million a year....Anytime you see this man play, He is having a blast, winning or losing. I believe he feels, that Playing in a game that so many "Greats" have played in, is worth more to him than any amount of money....just a thought....
