Cam Newton says he deserves loyalty

doubledragondoubledragon Posts: 23,269 ✭✭✭✭✭

Apparently Cam Newton realized that Mac Jones is a serious threat to him concerning the starting QB job because after last night's Washington game he jumped on Instagram and delivered a cryptic message saying he deserves loyalty.

Cam Newton asks for loyalty in cryptic IG post

Cam Newton had plenty to say after Thursday night's preseason opener, but it was his Instagram post on Friday that raised some eyebrows.

The New England Patriots quarterback shared a number of photos with an interesting message for the caption.

"I'm far from perfect.... but loyalty, I deserve it," he wrote.

It's hard to ignore the timing of Newton's cryptic post as he currently is in the midst of a QB competition with rookie Mac Jones. While the caption could be completely unrelated to football, there's no doubt it will be interpreted as a message to Patriots head coach Bill Belichick or anyone else who may be leaning toward Jones for the starting gig.

Newton unsurprisingly got the start Thursday night, completing four of his seven passes for 49 yards before being replaced by Jones at the end of the first quarter. The 15th overall pick in this year's draft impressed in his first taste of NFL action, going 13-for-19 with 87 yards.

The Patriots went on to beat the Washington Football team, 22-13. The next test for Newton and Jones will be another preseason matchup next Thursday vs. the Philadelphia Eagles.

I can't believe Cam did this, he watched Mac Jones get a standing ovation last night when Jones went into the game, and he watched how good Jones was last night and he knows that Jones is good enough to be the starter. So now, he gets on Instagram and tells people that he deserves loyalty, like he's Tom Brady. If Mac Jones outplays you Cam, take it like a man, don't sulk and say you deserve loyalty. Unbelievable.

Huh? Loyalty for arguably one of the worst performance of a Patriots QB and his tenure is one season? He himself said it was a “Business trip”. Is he concussed? Seriously this is a bizarre comment.

    Cammy is pure hype...101%.

I still can't believe Cam did this.

Could this be for his teammates that were with him last season? If this was meant for BB he’s gotta know that Bill doesn’t do InstaFace. Really odd but that’s Cam Newton in a nutshell.

  • doubledragondoubledragon Posts: 23,269 ✭✭✭✭✭

In the main picture he posted with his Instagram comment, the picture of him looks like he's trying to elicit sympathy or something, like he wants everyone to feel sorry for him.

Man, he might as well have written, "I should not be an NFL quarterback". If you're a Patriot, is that kind of message what you want out of your QB1? Of course not. You want an Alpha that commands loyalty not... whatever this is.

He may have taken a beating over the years at Carolina but my lasting memory of him is stepping back instead of diving onto that loose ball that turned into a turnover.

I remember this incident on an airplane back in 2019 when Cam Newton tried to pay a guy $1,500 to switch seats with him so Cam could have more leg room, the man wouldn't do it. Roll the footage!

At least he didn’t do what that idiot Vince Young did and buy every seat on a flight so he could be alone.

I'm not going to lie, if I was that man I probably would have said, you make it an even $2k and the seat is yours! 😂😂

Well the guy might be worth just as much as Newton or maybe didn’t want to out of spite. Personally? I would have taken it no problems lol

Plot twist, what if the guy was really a Panthers fan and to this day is still pissed about that SB performance? ;)

The guy could have thrown a football on the floor and told Cam to practice diving for the ball in tight spaces. B)

Yes, the fumble, on second thought Cam, if you want this seat, it's going to cost you $25,000!

Now listen here, General Newton demands loyalty from you Patriots fans, he's been your leader for one season, now you better get in line soldiers!

$1500 for a seat. I’d take it in a heart beat even if it was Tom Brady. That’s a first class ticket on my next flight free of charge.

Now listen here, a vast ye matee, you Patriots fans better get in line with Captain Newton, or you'll find yourself swabbing the deck, now 20 degrees off the starboard side, it's the spanish galleon!

a 10hr flight? nah. id say gimme a $1000 and you can pick the first 5 hours or the last 5.

even at prebooking, the basic “extra legroom” charge, if available, on an international flight is $249.

Who knows how tall the guy was, too. If he was 6'2" or 6'5" or something, maybe he needs that extra leg room as much as Cam.

    That said, I'd take the $1500 - and I'm 6'2" on a good day.

I just watched the replay of that awful "incident" in Super Bowl 50. You want this seat Cam? $100,000!

Even better...”Hey Cam, you want to switch seats? Just admit you wussed out on that SB fumble and the seat is yours.” You’d probably end up looking at this death stare for 10 hours. ;)

Just thinking about SB 50 is bringing back bad memories. The stress that man has caused me makes me want to puke, you want this seat Cam, $1,000,000!

im 6’4. have to have the extra leg room. im miserable if not. especially if the person in front of me tries to recline. i can empathize though. which is why id say id take $1000 and split the seat. of course this is prior to the weak “loyalty” card he’s pulling now. heck, id prolly let my 7 year old have the seat and fight cam for the middle arm rest just to have a lil fun.
