Remind me, what did the crossover wax pack service provide before it was suspended?
I have a couple of wax packs in GAI holders (the older ones BTW that are supposed to be legit) and I’m willing to pay $100 each (Prime service level) for PSA to grade. The crossover service is currently suspended but I don’t remember what the crossover service level provided compared to that of a raw pack, if anything. (Maybe it was a little cheaper?)
Maybe it’s a dumb question but I don’t want to leave anything to chance- Will PSA grade my packs if I send them in inside their GAI holders? (I’d rather not open the holders and send them in raw.) I just don’t want them to assume I was ignorant of the current crossover suspension and thus send me the packs back in the current GAI holders while costing me time and shipping/insurance fees. Thanks.

Crossover submission rate was same as raw packs.
I'm not sure about the second part of your question but I'd be interested in learning the answer.
Collecting 1970s Topps baseball wax, rack and cello packs, as well as PCGS graded Half Cents, Large Cents, Two Cent pieces and Three Cent Silver pieces.
you can send the packs in the gai holder and request a minimum grade of 1. if they can evaluate and authenticate the pack in the holder, they will cut it out of the holder, give it a grade, and mail you the gai flips back with your newly encapsulated psa pack. if they cant authenticate the pack in the gai holder, they will just send it back to you in the gai holder.
if you cut the pack out of the gai holder...its no longer a cross over.
Ok, so basically the crossover service kept your card/pack in the original holder (whether it be GAI, BGS, etc) if it did not achieve the minimum grade you asked PSA to affix. Makes sense. (Would PSA do the same if they deemed the item altered/trimmed/resealed??)
Like I wrote I don’t really want to cut my packs out of their current GAI holders prior to shipping if for no other reason then said holders will add some protection, ESPECIALLY to keep the gum in place.
(BTW does anyone have an opinion on the new PSA pack holders? Do they appear to better keep the gum in place?)
The only "logical reason" that someone sends in a "slabbed" pack for grading is because they want to cross it over, so that if it does not grade, or grade well if you put a min grade, you will get back what you had.
If you aren't concerned with the possibility of PSA saying the pack isn't legit and you don't care what grade it gets, even if worse than what GAI says, then you would crack it out and send it in. As the shipper, you have the ability to "properly" pack the "raw" pack so that the gum stays in place.
