Finally got it

In 91 I cracked open a lot of score to find this. Now 30 years later it’s mine.

Yup. I was 12 and spent the whole summer buying packs and trying to find one mantle. Was glad to add it to my PC at the national this year along with a bunch of other cards I had my eye on for a while.

  • I would’ve been happy hitting an unsigned one

    Agreed.

The nice thing about this particular card is that the auto is entirely in the picture. A lot of others have the auto end in the white border.

Most of the earlier certified/pack pulled autos have caught up or surpassed similar autographs, but many of them used to be bargains. I wish I would have pushed harder top find more of them. I wanted to get them all, but had to spread the money around.

I went with most of the easier ones and missed out on a lot of the big $ cards (UD Ted Williams, Score Mantle, Pinnacle Joe D, Topps Archive Aaron, etc. Still have a lot of the middle of the road cards and a few top end singles like Elite Ripken, Koufax 1995 Archives, etc.

I collect Steve Garvey, Dodgers and signed cards. Collector since 1978.

It was fun to chase them but frustrating to not find any. That’s for sure. Kept me busy.

  • See.... This is " collecting" 👍

My pickups from the national were all about cards I always wanted for my pc for a while. No flips or anything like that. Those days are done for me. For now :-)
