American Eagle 2021 Palladium Proof will likely have a ridiculous $700 premium

The new 2021 palladium Eagle drops on September 2nd, but will likely come with a hefty $700 premium. This is based on current spot hovering around $2,650 and the 2019 & 2020s collecting dust at the Mint with a price tag of $3350. I’d like to continue the series, but starting to feel the squeeze.!

All palladium except for the silver round in the middle of course.

This is the new normal. Premiums are high in general for anything in demand.

The sad thing is there is also a high probability palladium will drop down like platinum did, as more and more cars and trucks don't need catalytic convertors over the next 10 years.

I do agree, BUT, I’ve been hearing this with every release and have done pretty good.

    2017 $1,020.94
    2018 $1,387.50
    2019 $1,987.50
    2020 $3,000.00

The 2021 will have a higher mintage (12,000) than the 2020 (10,000), but half that of 2019 (30,000). What does the US Mint do with the duds that don’t sell? Do they melt them down, or store them for eternity?

Been collecting the PD Eagles too since day 1 and I'm too, on the fence on this upcoming release.

I assumed your 2017 price shown above is from an AP dealer?

    I bought a BU MS70 at 1200.
I still remember while I hesitated whether I get another PCGS, they were gone. It was a Friday afternoon.

Awesome! I was beginning to think I was the only one on the planet with a complete set. Nice to meet you!

I purchased the 2017 BU from APMEX during the presale.

I don’t collect many graded coins, but this is one I wouldn’t mine having. Congratulations on an outstanding purchase.

I usually do not collect BU coins, if I collect, I would buy the graded ones. I think at that time, ungraded ones were about $950, so $1200 for a MS70 is not a bad deal, so I bought one.
    BTW, I also have a MS69 1990 Russian Ballerina 1oz bought at $720.

    Agreed.

For example, consider another recent PM release from the Mint, the Proof T2 A(Au)E.

    20EK (Pd) -- $3,350 (Sale Price) - $2,608.50 (Current Spot) = $741.50 (Premium) = 28.43% (Premium)
    21EBN (Au) -- $2,700 (Sale Price) - $1,726.45 (Current Spot) = $973.55 (Premium) = 56.39% (Premium)

Note - "current spot" = average of 8/10/21 London Fix Price
