sounds more like something jimmy buffett might try vs warren.
And do what with them? Clear a space in the safe and take them out of circulation for 10 years, putting 6.5 million ducats into a deep sleep along with the cards? Or buy them, price them at $1 million each, sticking to your guns; an asking price that might assure the cards are buried with their new owner? "Control the market"!
I think the move we’ll eventually see to “control the market” is what happens all the time: fake sell a few in a row on the usual platforms (i.e., that recent 840k sale— which was followed by 240k, d’oh). Then try and catch a real (and gullible) fish at a sale price that seems like a steal. Rinse, repeat.

This card is the most manipulated card in the hobby and this is exhibit #1. I’ve always felt there were a few guys with 10+ of these.
Exactly. This card is the poster child/standard bearer for the guys running the okeydoke du jour of the hobby. They buy up a ton in all grades, then fake-sell a handful, sometimes trying real hard to make it seem like legit sales— replete with money changing hands, social media posts speciously proving the "sale" was real. Then they sell what they can at the inflated "FOMO" prices created by their fake sales, which get virally trumpeted for free across the cesspools of Instagram and Twitter— because they know full well that everyone with cards will cheerlead and shout out the "sales" as they think this makes their own cards suddenly worth more. It's a great racket yet very transparent, and again the Jordan Fleer has all the right intrinsic ingredients to make it the perfect tool for this scam.
It's just too easy. I remember one super high profile card that "sold" privately. The new owner got Orlando to Tweet out the sale and price. Instant seeming legitimacy. Just so the card could be subsequently offloaded to some whale-mark at a massively inflated price.
I've found the best way to inoculate oneself from this slime and headache is to just look at cards like any other luxury item one buys for pure enjoyment; collect what you love and want to hold for the longhaul; ignore the money and "market" aspect if possible, and just know if it comes time to ever sell, they'll likely be worth something.

an even better idea might be to get in a useless quarrel with the one of the best and even-keeled mods this place has seen in a decade over a taboo subject. get your feelings hurt, sulk and start taking your aggressions out over tom brady mosaic cards. quite sad actually. best of luck with that plan. i would say, let me know how that goes, but you prolly won't be able to.
That is exactly my approach to the hobby. Sometimes I kick myself for collecting what I like, knowing I could have made a bucket load by taking an investment first approach. But that's not what the hobby is for me, doing just fine making money in other areas of my life and want my collecting to stay mostly pure. Allows me to ignore all the BS.

I'm so over that covid comment business.......but speaking of tantrums, how long until you blame COMC for not being able to sell those $2 Bradys for $15?

i dont have the funds to pay $800 to ship them here this century. and if i choose the $20 option then i wont be alive by the time they get here. so they’ll sit. forever. or until inflation catches on. either way, pretty sad what you choose to spend your time on. maybe snag one of these. easy guide so you can really utilize your time efficiently:

Absolutely. The UD Griffey has to be included in that conversation as well.
