SurePost and SmartPost is a pain.

I know that it is up to the shipper to select SurePost(UPS) or SmartPost(FedEx) and I truly understand about costs associated with shipping items, but it is a pain when SurePost or SmartPost is used and neither UPS, FedEx nor the USPS can tell you when your package will be delivered or where it is currently. Another aggravating thing is I'll get a notice from UPS that the package was delivered, when it hasn't been and then within the day it shows up in P.O. Box. I have a package coming from FedEx now that was shipped on the 5th and on FedEx it just says shipped SmartPost and will be finalized by my post office. It left from Charlotte, NC on the 5th(only found out by going to FedEx Chat) and says no updates 5 days later. I would rather assist in the shipping fee than deal with this. Next time I'll ask the shipper if they are going to use either and ask if I contribute to the shipping fee could I upgrade it. Should work. I called the USPS and they say your tracking number is not in their system yet, so no help there either.And please don't say it says at the bottom of the page to contact the FedEx Delivery Manager as in this case it is not possible. I have not had trouble with coins being shipped by FedEx SmartPost, but have several times with UPS and I cannot for the life of me figure how this can be cheaper than straight shipping by USPS. JMO

Agree! I ordered photos from Target.com and paid for their upgraded express delivery which guaranteed receipt within 7 days. It is now going on the third week and the package is in some type of limbo location between UPS and USPS.
