The ANA registry is being developed by NGC, I have not heard of any updates and the last time I inquired on the NGC chat board my question went unanswered. Delays were blamed on covid; which I'm sure had an affect; perhaps the recent buyout has also impacted this project and may have changed the project's level of importance (up or down) to the NGC organization. At this time its still a waiting game.

What’s the purpose of an ANA registry?
A very good question, in theory a way to be more inclusive and attract new collectors. I'm not sure that will be the end result but I don't know for sure.

I think the main selling point was that it allowed both PC/NGC coins

I think so also, however the NGC registry already does this so really the ANA registry will end up being just a copy of the current NGC registry

It didn’t allow ANACS or ICG which I thought was strange.
I would agree and had hoped that it would allow ANACS, however I'm curious why you think it strange that ICG would not be accepted. I'm certainly no expert but from all that I read the ICG reputation in the overall market is not on par with the other three accepted TPG's. It is also somewhat premature to say that "it didn't allow XXX TPG" given that (as far as I know) the platform has not been released. While I do not expect to see ANACS or ICG included the recent changes to the front offices of NGC may have an impact on this before the registry is released

I think being more inclusive is better. Collecting should be about fun.
If you think ICG isn’t good though, I’m guessing others think ANACS isn’t good enough.
I'm still surprised Heritage hasn't developed a registry. Done right, it would be a fantastic tool for collectors to be able to quickly find stuff they're selling in their auctions to upgrade their sets. It would also give Heritage the ability to target specific collectors with specific lots in upcoming sales, and do it based on what's in their collections or want lists, not what they recently looked at or added to a watch list.

I give away money. I collect money.
I don’t love money . I do love the Lord God.

Collecting is fun but it is also a very big business, there is some financial motivation to not be fully inclusive.
