eBay Slow Period for Vintage Baseball Card Auctions

Hello Everyone!

Since I haven't been selling on eBay all that long, I was wondering if there are months where sales are slow? I sell on Sunday evenings and this past week bids were lower than normal and for this coming Sunday, views are down and also advanced bids.

Thank you in Advance!

I can say I’m looking at eBay less lately because I’m tired of seeing cards with starting bids five times their highest recorded sale….

Not just baseball, football is the same....cards are priced at a number that I can't find any justification for other than lets throw it out there and see what happens. I usually search by simply typing NFL HOF RC PSA, and I rarely find a card that is not priced at least double what it's sold for in the recent past. I prefer to buy it now but that's not even an option because of silly pricing.

Just as an FYI, I would guess with that search, you are only seeing 10% of cards that fit your criteria. There are approximately 1050 such cards that show up on ebay right now with that search. The number of PSA graded rookie cards of Elway, Rice, Marino, and Dickerson alone exceeds that. Not saying you'll find the prices you want, but there's a lot more out there that you're not seeing with that search . . .

I'm finding it to be a frustrating market at the moment. I give a lot of credit to collectors - imo people are getting better at overpricing the most desired items. It's a good time to be bargain hunting for mid grade, though.

I have expected that to be the case but am not sure how else to search when I'm not looking for a particular player or card but rather just PSA graded RCs of HOFers.

Having a card worth $500 and pricing it for a $6000. It makes no sense. None of that sells. I've never understood it. If a card truly sells for $500 all day long and you really are not sure you want to part with it....price it at $950. It's humanly possible that it sells and you didn't totally waste your time. Listing it for $10,000 is a complete waste of time, money and space.

Sellers will do stuff like this in the hopes of hooking a sucker who knows little/nothing about cards. I see it all the time on COMC too...trying to sell $2 cards for $15-$20

Yeah, that's an extremely restrictive search. If I were listing a John Elway rookie, I don't know that I would include all four of those terms. I would probably title it as "1984 Topps John Elway PSA 9 RC" or similar.

For your search, I'm not sure what the best way to go about it would be. Including a list of player names wouldn't work because there's so many you'd have to do multiple searches. Hmmm...I can't think of a good solution for you. :(

    Kinda like stuff like this:

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/144149551381

Somebody actually submitted that card for grading. But the crazy pricing DOES work. Just look at the sold listings for that $0.02 common:

It probably works many times on $3 cards selling for $19; but I can't imagine a $400 card selling for $5000. Seems like a waste of time on all sides.

Perhaps a "seller" of a $500 card he really doesn't want to sell, but he wants to advertise "See, I have some really cool cards! Come check out my website where it's not quite as obvious that we'll be violating the eBay ToS."
