How to unsubscribe to a thread

rmpsrpmsrmpsrpms Posts: 1,968 ✭✭✭✭✭

I replied to a thread and was automatically subscribed, and now I'm being deluged with responses I don't care about. I can't find an unsubscribe function anywhere. How do you unsubscribe to a thread?

On the right hand side of the topic is a star

    Click that

if you have one starred, it will be under "my bookmarks"

I don't want it bookmarked, I want it gone.

So I tried your suggestion, and bookmarked it, and then un-bookmarked it. I hope that works. If so, then thanks for the info.

Do you mean you get emails? That might be another setting.

    @rmpsrpms

If what has already been suggested does not 'work', you might want to try the following:

    1) Left Click (LC) your 'username' in the upper right corner of the screen.

    2) LC the 'edit profile' icon, and then LC the "Edit Profile" drop-down.

    3) LC "Notification Preferences".

    4) Deselect the "Email" and "Popup" buttons for "Notify me when people comment on discussions that I've participated in."

    5) LC "Save General Preferences".

Well, it didn't work, I am still getting emails, but I don't want to turn off emails for ALL my subscribed threads either! I just don't want to get notification emails for that one thread.

So I guess once you reply to a thread, you must forever get email updates, unless you are willing to turn updates off on all the other threads you're subscribed to?

I’m outta advice on this one

I don’t like the trouble you are going through. Not a well thought out feature.

Perhaps you can turn off the update feature and switch to the star method?

Hmm, maybe. If I bookmark a thread, will I get notifications if there are replies? If not, then what does it mean to bookmark a thread, just that it will show up in my "bookmarked" page? I have probably 50 threads that I'm "subscribed" to and receive emails when there are replies. I don't mind bookmarking all of them as long as I am notified when there is a reply.

    Yeah you get emails

I don't get emails on my bookmarked threads, so there are options for that, too.

I only get emails when I get a message.

I have never received emails on my bookmarked threads either, which is why I asked. What options are you referring to?

The "notification preferences" page includes the following notification options:

I think that this one allows you to set e-mail and pop-up preferences for bookmarked discussions.

I think that this one allows you to set e-mail and pop-up preferences for any non-bookmarked discussion that you have participated in (e.g., posted a reply).
