What happens when you drop off a package thru Drop slot at the PO with No Label? UPDATE!

Evening,

Just got back from the Post office dropping off a Stack of Padded Mailers and had a Brain Fart. Apparently I didn't get one of the labels printed but it still found its way to the already labeled pile. And I didn't double check myself and pushed it through!
Only $60 bucks but I hate to disappoint the customer.

Any chance if I go there first thing in the morning, it would still be at the branch?

Never did this bonehead move before!

Thanks

YeeHaw!

Neil

I believe they will open it to look for an invoice.

I know that Fed-ex eventually auctions off “unfound” packages. I would love to go to that auction. :)

Did you drop it off after they closed or were they still open?........If it was when they were still open then there is very little chance it would be there the next morning as the last truck comes after they close and takes all the mail to the plant. If you dropped it in after they were closed, the problem would be you would have 10 to 12 hours of mail and packages dropped on top of your packages, making it difficult to find. If you have a return address on it, it will be returned but if it doesn't it will eventually be sent to the Mail Recovery Center in Georgia. If there is an address of any kind inside, it should be sent out to that address. I believe you can fill out a Missing Mail form online.....just realize that ALL the missing items from the United States goes there so it could be a needle in a haystack situation. Good luck.

go back tonight and drop a note in the box too. maybe just write it out on a big piece of cardboard stating youll be back first thing in the morning? the po box lobby should be open 24 hours, right?

    Thanks,

No and No, I'm an idiot, as usual I write on the Outside of the Cardboarded secured items in the package: Thank You for your purchase, I have my own Stamp that is stamped on the outside of every Padded Envelope, "Please Do NO BEND, FOLD, OR Crush 15 times! and No packing slip....another MY Bad, never saw the need to destroy another million trees to print them, know I know why, still am not going to.

They were closed, but it was just after closing 5:15 or so!

One in many many 10's of thousands of packages sent over 25 years of Cards and my First...I'll live with it and realize I'm an Idiot!

    Thanks

    Yeehaw!

Sort of thought of that, but after Knowing they have been closing all the PO Lobbys just a little later than that of the PO counters being closed, big sign on Entrance, Lobby No Longer open 24 hours, went back at 9 it was locked!!! So pissed at myself I didn't even look at the New Lobby Hours!

Just an FYI, the whole reason this was allowed to happen by me is because of this whole Managed payments thing, I get confused with the different screens. ect. You should never Change the Path for us old Codgers! I changed my method of Reconciling and Shipping packages Today, to try and take advantage of some of the new paths with managed payments. To make a long story short, I packaged several Packages Prior to Payment, lucky I didn't Fric5K up more packages than this one...That experiment went Nowhere just as the "Little Voice"told me not to!

You're in Phoenix, right? Go to the Post Office/Station first thing in the morning where you dropped off package. Mail is supposed to be prepped prior to dispatch..... meaning that the clerk who pulled that drop should have separated the flats and small parcels into tubs before dispatching. By chance if the clerk noticed no label the package may still be in the office awaiting dispatch to the Mail Recovery Center in Atlanta. If the package was dispatched it has been "kicked" out of the automation system more than likely at the West Valley PDC there in Phoenix. A Manager at your drop location Station can e-mail or call a manager at the PDC for investigation and assist in a "package intercept" to have it returned to your Station. There may be a small fee associated with this service. Time is critical and acting fast is a must. Good luck..........

    Good Day,

Went to PO this morning, spoke to the Post Mistress? She was sympathetic but offered none of the assistance you mention above. Basically your SOL!

And to make it worse I've since figured out I screwed up 3 packages, total of about $100 in orders I refunded this morning. Two of the 3 are going to get Cards anyway, just not the right ones, but their Free now! Not even going to bother trying to get cards back. I crossed packages once before and got the Cards back and to the right customers with no Hassles. So my luck is used up on that front!

    Thanks

Hi Neil, here in Wickenburg they know us by name and would probably have set the package aside! Gotta love small towns!

Sorry to hear that. That's basically crap though!! Where is the customer service? Seriously, she just blew you off. Exact reason I got the hell out of the PO early---- no pride in job or respect for customers anymore. I did 33+ with the last 14 in management and calling BS for you.

Forget about customer service with the post office. They are zero help.
I put two small flat rate boxes in the blue drop box outside of the post office by my house here in Houston back in late March and early April. A few days apart. Neither were ever scanned in. Have not heard that either were ever delivered anywhere.

One was a photo sent to Kurt Busch to get an autograph for my son. That's not a big loss.

The other had about 5 autographs i had sent off to Houston Texans players in 2012 that were personalized to my son, as well as an oj Simpson 1972 Topps autograph card. Was hoping to get them all encapsulated. Those are a bit harder to swallow.
Have never heard that they ever arrived at PSA.

Really chaps my hide that they have not been helpful at all while I have tried several different ways to make progress on finding their whereabouts.

Awesome. Perfectly legal.... PO wants revenue.

Maybe she didn't blow you off but didn't want to get your hopes up of locating package.

Glad it worked out and found its way back to you! I would have bet money you were never going to see that package again.

The USPS gets a lot of grief, and sometimes rightfully so, but by and large they are very reliable when you consider the volume they handle on a daily basis.

That is very cool on your post office; I'd give your PO a few gift cards for lunch or something like that.
