    $20,000????????????????
  • Not to mention the zero feedback and "VG-MINT" condition. I guess that would be a PSA 3/9.

For 20 grand you think the seller would take 10 minutes and host some pics, write up a detailed description on the key cards. And put up pics of the commons which are in good shape. At the very least ...guys like me selling cheap cards do better.

I'm just upset that the guy didn't set up a $50,000 "Buy It Now". If he did, I'd be waiting for that sweet VG-Mint set to rocket on down to my place, baby!image

In all seriousness, it's hard for the average person to sell this kind of thing, because it's hard to grade and it's hard to price. People are given the choice of muddling along blindly, or going to a card shop and getting savaged.

Even professional dealers don't do a much better job of description than this. I've bought several complete sets online, usually from good dealers, and in most cases they are way off with the grades on the cards they bother to grade, and the overall set grade is usually way off, too.

  • Gee......my first post. Im soooooo nervous image.

Looks like this had no nibbles. It will be interesting to see if it reappears.

It always bugs me when something is advertised as a set and you realize it is missing more than 10% of its cards.

I bet we don't see it again, or best case we see it again with a $10K minimum bid or something.

I have no idea how any could ever bid on this, even if it had a minimum bid of $1. Clearly you'd have to bid more than $1 to get it, but how could anyone decide what's a sane amount to bid? Perhaps you could assume that Mantle and Mays are VG and go from there, but if the guy says VG-MT, then for all you know the Mantle and Mays are P and the rest are VGEX.

The few times I've won vague stuff like this I've been disappointed more than I've been happy, I think.

I think that Vargha's silence on this matter indicates that he has purchased this set off-line and will be using the "MINT" cards to reclaim his Number Three contendor position ;-)
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.

I'm on vacation right now. I'm in Jackson Hole, Wyoming leaving Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons on the way down to Bryce Canyon. I shelled out $5 for 30 minutes of Internet time to clear out the junk from my e-mail box while the kids and the wife are shopping. I see a new almost completed 1951 Bowman set has been added (but you can't view it). It looks like it is missing Mays or Mantle due to the descrepancy between the rating and the GPA. I would be curious as to the identity of the owner.
