Dusty Hill.

I just saw that famed ZZTop bassist Dusty Hill has died and I weep.

I saw the band five times during a brief two-year period in the early 1970's including a chance concert at Cleveland's Allen Theatre. That one was a front row affair, up close and personal, Billy Gibbons ripped off a nice riff and stretched out to me during "Jesus Just Left Chicago" and Dusty Hill stepped over to pluck coming out of the solos. I saw them again in the late 1980's at Blossom Music Center when they were too well known to really do the soaring blues solos, too much focus on the hits from their extensive song-book.

Early on, for about 3-4 albums, those guys really owned the American Blues. It is sad to see these Giants of Rock-n-Roll fade away.
