Abdul Mejid was the 31st Sultan of the Ottoman Empire and succeeded his father Mahmud II on 2 July 1839. His reign was notable for the rise of nationalist movements within the empire's territories.

    The Ottoman Turkish coinage is difficult to obtain in high grade. Typically coins were used in jewelry, and therefore often mounted or holed. Fake coins are also quite common. The pricing guides do not reflect the true value based on the real scarcity. Yet take a look at the beautiful coinage, particularly the gold issues, for delicate designs that are truly exquisite.
