I say do no harm. Pmd of any sort is detrimental to the original mint condition of a token or medal. Peace Roy

When we say "Don't clean coins", we mean "coins, tokens, medals or anything else numismatic".

Yes, there are exceptions, but the exceptions detract from this simple and important message.

    The exceptions are:

    • Anything found underground/by metal detector.
    • Anything heavily corroded or damaged
    • Anything with "active" corrosion such as bronze disease, aluminium cancer or tin pest. As their names imply, they will spread across a coin's surface and even jump from coin to coin, spreading the contagion.
    • Anything with PVC "goo".
    • War medals. Nobody can stop old soldiers from polishing their medals, so we've given up trying.
Waste no more time arguing what a good man should be. Be one.

What are thoughts on Olive Oil soaking ?

  • Namvet69Namvet69 Posts: 9,010 ✭✭✭✭✭

Depends on what type of crud you're trying to dislodge. Soaking in oo or mineral oil is a sloooooow process. But.....still no rubbing! Peace Roy
