When did Alonso become the 3rd Announcer? I think at Perez was mentioned maybe 2 times when he was hitting. Couldn't even keep the camera on Perez.

while not my favorite format both in playoff style or televised view, but that was a pretty good derby. super entertaining! great story lines, esp mancini.

The boy got +500. Not too shabby. He does this for a living. It's going to shorten my life. He told me the Polar Bear was hungry tonight

I think Alonso has gotten more money from derbies than from the Mets.

As an Atlanta burb dude I didn't watch it and won't watch the game. My brother and I were debating going to the derby here...nope.

was pretty much impartial to peter prior to this, but this kinda struck a nerve. i agree that he shouldnt have just given it to mancini but you also dont have to say this publicly either. especially like this:

(lets not forget, hes not even an all star this year)

The classy move might have been to not say anything, win it, and in twenty years reveal that people wanted you to lose on purpose but to do that would have been a disrespect to the game and to the determination that Mancini showed to be there in the first place.

Edited to add: It is unfortunate that he chose to say this.

its also should be noted that he won a million dollars which is just about what the mets only had to pay him for the entire season. hard to think that didnt come into play which makes the statement w expletives even more repulsive.

eta: so far the mets have only paid alonso $2.9 million. $900k of that is a signing bonus. he’s made $2 million off the 2 derbys he’s won. so…
