Unusual mission for proof Jeffersons.
Hi guys,
I recently Cherry picked 8 Jefferson nickels. Hopefully, they all are Proofs? I attempted this because last year I cherry picked a beautiful 1940 pf. Jefferson with the reverse of the pf. 1938. Thought I can hunt down some more? Although, one I hope turns out to be a 1940 pf. with the pf.1940 reverse, With Full Steps. Here are my picks individually marked by a color code. Can you guys help me out to confirm some of these to be the real deal? I hope I pictured them clear enough to distinguish the variety? Thank you guys, for any help.
The first 7 are hopefully the 1940 w. the reverse of 38. The 8th one is the 1940 with the reverse of 1940, with Full Steps.
Here is an example of my PCGS graded reverse of 1938
1. Red
2. Grey
3. Orange
4. Yellow
5. Green
6. Purple
7. Blue
Now, 1940 reverse of 1940
Double Blue dots. With Full Steps?
Thanks everyone.

I don't see any proof coins in your group.
These may not appear to be but I thought the same. Then PCGS certified it proof.

Here is my Cherry pick from last year of the 1940 with the reverse of 1938.
"Jesus died for you and for me, Thank you,Jesus"!!!
--- If it should happen I die and leave this world and you want to remember me. Please only remember my opening Sig Line. All look like business strike coins to me.
I see no proofs and very few steps, except for the last coin.
They're all business strikes and Type 2 steps.
Lol. Ok, thanks all. Boy, was I ever wrong. Lol. It's just that some of those nickels I posted, did appear to have the same, or nearly the same steps as the proof Jefferson steps of the "1938 reverse "?

Esp. #4, the Yellow?
Thank you all! Oh, all 8 coins cost me $5. How 'bout the last one? The 1940. Do you guys think, Full Steps? Let me take some better pics.
Thanks.
"Jesus died for you and for me, Thank you,Jesus"!!!
--- If it should happen I die and leave this world and you want to remember me. Please only remember my opening Sig Line. What you showed are not proof - not 38 reverse. The truview nickel is .
40 die has sharp edges on the sides of the steps - 38 don't - soft sides
"When they can't find anything wrong with you, they create it!"
Here is a better pic. The 1940

Full Steps or maybe a 5 Stepper? Thanks.
"Jesus died for you and for me, Thank you,Jesus"!!!
--- If it should happen I die and leave this world and you want to remember me. Please only remember my opening Sig Line.Only the 1940 is proof and only PR65. The rest are business strikes. And not of high quality MS UNC.
Looks FS. PCGS requires only 5 steps to be "full."
Thanks, I always thought that was NGC, requires the 5 Steps to be designated FS?
"Jesus died for you and for me, Thank you,Jesus"!!!
--- If it should happen I die and leave this world and you want to remember me. Please only remember my opening Sig Line. Now, would you guys consider this '40 to be a PF or a Business strike? Thanks.
"Jesus died for you and for me, Thank you,Jesus"!!!
--- If it should happen I die and leave this world and you want to remember me. Please only remember my opening Sig Line.NGC also requires 5 steps, but will designate "6FS" if all are full.
PCGS does not differentiate between 5 and 6 steps.
You should be able to distinguish the difference in overall quality between your certified proof and the coins you posted here.
Some notes:
Proofs will rarely have contact marks on them
Proofs will not be late die state (field erosion, feeder finger polish, clash, etc.)
Proofs will have at least some reflective quality, like your certified one
Proofs will practically always have full steps(Full 1938 steps are weak, hence the redesign of 1939)
The edge of a proof will be more reflective/smoother than a circulation strike due to the collars used by the medal presses.
Some exceptions to these observations may exist, but those would be outside of the norm.

Your right. Thanks, for all the info.

--- If it should happen I die and leave this world and you want to remember me. Please only remember my opening Sig Line.Just realized that I may have sounded a bit mean with my opening on the last post....
A better wording may have been if you compare your proof to these you will see a difference between their overall quality.
I would consider that 1940 to be FS, the "purists" might not though. It has a very nice strike.

No. I didn't take it that way. Thanks. You are correct though. By comparing my PCGS Jefferson with my others. No real comparison. Thanks again.
