Joey Chestnut has won his 14th hot dog eating contest, the man broke his own record, he downed 76 dogs, winning his 14th mustard belt.

Joey Chestnut wins 14th Nathan's Famous Fourth of July Hot Dog Eating Contest with record 76 franks

Joey Chestnut won his 14th Nathan's Famous Fourth of July Hot Dog Eating Contest in typical dominant fashion on Sunday, devouring a new record of 76 franks in 10 minutes to keep his mantle atop the sport.

Chestnut, who goes by "Jaws," put on another eating clinic to claim the Mustard Belt, out-eating second place finisher Geoffrey Esper (50). Chesnut has now won 14 of the last 15 hot dog eating contests since taking down six-time defending champion Takeru Kobayashi in 2007, with his only loss in 2015 to Matt Stonie.

In his storied career at the annual Independence Day event, Chestnut has now eaten a record 1,089 hot dogs. On Sunday, Chestnut came out ready and was on record pace, downing 30 hot dogs in three minutes.

This year's contest returned to Coney Island with a plethora of fans – many there to root on Chestnut – in abundance. It's become a regularity for Chestnut to not necessarily battle himself, but his own world records from previous years' competitions.

β€œThis is what I love. I love eating in front of people and they love pushing me,” Chestnut said on ESPN prior to the contest. β€œI’m just a guy that eats hot dogs and have fun. I’m just so happy to be doing this.”

Competitive eater Joey Chestnut celebrates after setting what was a new world record with 75 hot dogs to win the men's division of the Nathan's Famous July Fourth hot dog eating contest in July 2020. On Sunday, he ate 76.

The 37-year-old Chestnut continues to find an inner drive, having set a world record of 75 hot dogs last year with zero fans in attendance at a private COVID-19-friendly location. He told the Boston Globe in 2012: "This sport isn't about eating. It's about drive and dedication, and at the end of the day, hot dog eating challenges both my body and my mind."

On the women's side, Michelle Lesco won the competition with 30ΒΎ hot dogs in 10 minutes. Reigning champion Miki Sudo sat out this year because she is pregnant.

I had a couple of Nathan's dogs the other day, they're my favorite brand of dog, they're delicious. So, what's your favorite brand dog, Nathan's, Ball Park, Oscar Meyer? Don't be shy, let us know what brand of dog you fancy!

Oh my goodness, ESPN is getting absolutely roasted because they screwed up the coverage of the hot dog eating contest. Right as Joey Chestnut was breaking the record, ESPN's coverage hit a glitch and everyone missed Chestnuts record breaking moment, check it out.

When the occasion strikes that we cook hotdogs at home, we now go with the organic all beef variety. A little more money but worth it imo.

And I go mustard, just mustard. Maybe salt and pepper.

My wife led my household to @Stevek 's side years ago. But I unwillingly fight to stay on your side (by still being overweight...). πŸ˜‚

Edited to add: back in the day I did enjoy a good regular hotdog (or six) but still with mustard.

Whatever you do, don't let Steve's influence take your chocolate away, if that happens, we're defeated!

If the on-occasion, organic semi-dark chocolate counts, I am still with you.

I wonder if Joey Chestnut takes a girl out to eat at a nice restaurant,
and he's done eating in like 30 seconds, does he go hey are you finished yet, let's go.
That would have to be really annoying for his date.

My friend with the cooler almost took out that little girl on the bike

I think he was over his two drinks a day healthy ration and believed he was The Grand Marshall of the parade. We tried to stop him but he shifted into third and laid rubber

It should be noted that it was a kids parade

I'm seriously hissed off about the unauthorized use of my name in this thread.

You'll be hearing from my attorney Jackie Chiles in the morning.
