While I'm not going to say they don't exist. I have never seen a certified 01-S quarter in any G4 TPG holder and I've seen and sold quite a few of them!

    Have you checked eBay? ;)

I see 6 as the floor... and I think we are at a 50% shot... possibly higher... at an 8. Not bad for what it is and I suspect several collectors would like to own this example regardless of whether it is a 6 or 8.

7, even though that can't be the grade that was assigned.

    Barely VG.

    VG-10 is my guess.

I really want to post up a true view. I really am curious how it compares to mine. If it doesn't show up today I'll post the grade and my thoughts this evening.

Solid VG08. My 'guess' is confirmed by those who are labeling it at a lesser grade.

Yes, the reverse is better than the obverse.

I STILL think it's worth VG money, but the hammer fell.

It’s fascinating how frequently Barber coins seem to have “split” grades. I often find halves where the obverse seems like a solid VG08 but the reverse looks AG03.

@amwldcoin: great thread! This coin does seem like a choice 7; Barbers seem pretty strong at the moment, so asking a VG price seems very plausible.

Now I will be going back and forth for awhile trying to decide if I can get it in an 8 holder.

Or list as-is on BST for something around 8 money and see what happens. Lots of collectors would love to own a truly PQ+ 6 …. which is still likely to be cheaper than a truly PQ 8 ….

This coin's not for sale right now. Think it would be a good one to toss in the bank for awhile!

I seem to have the hardest time grading barbers. One of the reasons is the 2 coins shown. Both are PCGS AG3. One is mine, the other isn’t. The difference in wear, especially the reverse is pretty dramatic for having the same grade. The colors are closer than the pictures show. Different lighting and time of day.

It may not be by you but I can see this coin in an 8 holder someday.

@Vetter: interesting and instructive example. If I were grading, I would call the second coin a solid AG03, but too much wear into the rims to consider for G04. The first coin, though very nice from the perspective of “good honest wear” seems borderline FR02.

I would want to call that 1st coin FR02 also.

These examples including my 01-S show just how much weight the Obv. carries on a coins grade.
