200+ card 1986 Fleer Basketball Lot

I would really like to get some thoughts from you guys on this topic. I have 200+ of this legendary card set. No Jordan's :( but everything else under the sun. Bird, Ewing, Jabbar. I have stickers, multiples upon multiples. With PSA set to open 7/1 and grading of cards increasing, with the price of cards going down and scrutiny of grading I feel enhancing would the best bet be to set this up as a lot deal sale? Or should I take the time to really piecemeal card by card grading trying to find the best I can find amongst these 200 cards.

I have a solid 10+ cards ready to grade. Centering looks great, cards look great but I'm really on the fence if I should move forward and grade these. All cards on the table, I'm no collector. I'm looking at all these 80's and 90's cards I have stored as an opportunity.

If PSA doen't drop to a price you like, send them to SGC for $30 for the good stuff. Def better than raw. Regardless, you will only max out value potential to move them one by one. But if you are lazy or in a hurry, then lot it and dump it!

if they are above PSA 7 quality I don't think there is any question that sending them in to PSA is the best way to maximize your profits. The question you need to ask yourself is do you need money now or can you wait a few months to get your cards back. If you can wait I'd send in any legend that you feel has a legit shot at a 9. That gives you a 2 grade buffer down to a 7 which still sell for strong prices. Again, I'd only send in the legends and only ones that you think could get 9's or 10's. If none are that nice, sell them as a lot.

The stickers in high grade bring decent money, especially Jabbar. If you grade them, get advice on removing the wax from the backs

My brother is about 60% through the commons and stars and 40% through the whales and stickers of completing a PSA 9 set of 86 Fleer....if you are looking for potential buyers on a non-lot basis, message me.

first step is realizing that they wont be opening back up on 7/1.

(at least not at the level you are wanting)

I'll be interested in all Larry Birds. If you do decide to sell. Please p.m. me

First thing you should do, is post a few pics of the best cards that you might grade and we can give a much better idea.

re-reading the first post, were these the 10 cards that were "grade worthy"? I'm afraid to see the other cards. Maybe a few of these would be worth a $30 SGC grade....

That's why I recommended the OP post some pics. And I'm glad he did. IMO, now the question is do you sell these as one lot on ebay, or do you individually sell some of the stars. I would at least sell them in two lots, one of the stickers and one of the cards.

  • Thanks for the response's all. The pics are just a handful of the entire lot I have. I'm sure there's gradable somewhere. But I wanted to post a few to get some good feedback. I appreciate it. I think I'm going to sell this as a lot knowing the buyer hopefully will be able to find some gems within.

Any chance that Bird, Ainge, and McHale would frequent the same barber shops back in '86?

Nice cards; but really nothing jumps out as gradeable. Maybe 2-3 cards if the prices go down under $15......which I think they are not anytime soon. Sell raw. Commons as a lot and stars individually. Sell them right on here. Easy to do.
