I just sent the below in a message to the seller!

You need to look at the style of the V.D.B on this coin as compared to a Genuine San Fransisco minted 09S-VDB.
The period following the "D" is in the wrong location, look at the difference between the V.D.B of this listed 09S-VDB and your other one you have listed?
Thank you for the pictures, I collect these.
    Have a good day.

Starting your message with the words “You need to...” will probably put a lot of sellers on the defensive and make them less likely to listen.

    Hi Mark,
I'm glad you dropped by one of my discussions!
Do you remember me from back about a year ago? I was the one who was trying to help an acquaintance out with a cache of Silver Dollars that his father left him, and you sent me here to this forum for help?
Back on topic. (they all turned out counterfeit)
I do see your point about my message to the seller, in MOST every case with these 09S-VDB fakes on Ebay when I post'em here for discussions I just let the wind blow (knowledgeable members here) do what they do and get the listings taken down.
But, with this seller it would seem to me that they have sold far more than enough coins to likely know that one is a fake/counterfeit.
I was also the one (a year ago) that got burned on one of the fake VDB's just like this one, I paid $500.00 for it and something like 8 months later I was able to get $200.00 of my loss back, with a promise for another $200.00 around the first of March, that never happened.
I always appreciate any and ALL of your feedback, next time I'll chose my words more carefully o:)
If it had been an auction type listing I wouldn't have messaged them at all, but A late night listing, for a fake, and a buy it now, I didn't want it to sell without the seller knowing he burnt someone!
Please check in on my 09S-VDB discussions more often. I've been going down the Ebay newly listed 09Svdb's several times a day for several months spotting and posting them here, me finding them and the forum members getting them removed has put a major dent on these fakes/counterfeits being sold on ebay.

    Yes, Mark, I remember.

When contacting eBay sellers - as I often do - my mindset is as follows...
If they know they’re offering a counterfeit, it’s extremely unlikely that what I say or how I say it will make any difference.
But if they don’t know, my words and tone might matter. So in most instances, since I can’t be sure what their intent is, I give them the benefit of the doubt and take a helpful, gentle approach. Sometimes I don’t hear back from them, other times they tell me to take a hike and fairly often, they thank me and end the listing.

I know people that have been selling coins for a decade who can't grade them much less authenticate them. I know one pair of brothers who have a gold shop that, after 10 years, will call me to tell me they got some UNC Walkers and when I go down they are XF cleaned.

You can't assume just because they are selling coins that they know anything about coins.

I would also point out that I have a bag of body-bagged fakes here from the estate of a very knowledgeable dealer. We all get fooled occasionally.

He ended the auction. Anyone, especially those that sell a lot of coins, can make a mistake.

    Point Taken!
In almost all cases of these fake 09S-VDB's I don't contact anyone, I just post them here for an open discussion and the senior members here do what they do and the wind blows, and POOF the listings are gone!
But, for the past few days I've had a severally swollen (inflamed) knee and last night around 3:30am I got up to put an ice pack on it and propped my leg up for a little while, so I got on the computer and did a regular quick scan of newly listed, found that the one above, saw he was a pretty high volume ebay coin dealer, I knew that the coin was listed late night from anywhere in the country, saw it was a late night Buy It Now and not an auction and thought a likely Con, so, the middle of the night condition for me was, the message I sent, and whatever will be will be.

Now, there is another thing I've been doing in a more planned approach on ebay and I've been really nice in doing it.
I've been seeding sellers that have these misleading listings up for Lincoln cents like,
1944 "No Mint Mark" Very Rare" Lincoln penny (41,42,43,46,82,86 etc..) for $2,000 (whatever crazy price) messages about these coins being minted at the Philly mint that on purpose omits the mint mark and that these coins are not Rare nor highly valuable, and that the best I could figure these types of listing got started on the itsy web site by Con's. Then I include a screen shot for my "Official Red Book Of US Coins" listing their coin. Thus far I'm getting really positive results, many replied with a thank you, many replied that they suspected something like that was going on, some has ask for a little help with (information) about other coins, and a good bit of them ending the listing. I had one guy that started working a Con about a 43 Copper he had that didn't stick to a magnet, I just directed him to other resources and I did ask for clear and close up pictures, he never sent them.

Seems to be alot of those around lately with that crappy "S" mintmark and the dot close up to the D (Philly).
