Copper Weight vs. Silver Weight

harashaharasha Posts: 3,079 ✭✭✭✭✭

I own a copper medallion weighing 92.6 grams. I am considering purchasing another, clearly from the same dies, but allegedly of silver. The silver medallion weighs 84.2 grams. Does the weight difference make sense, comparing copper to silver?

Silver is denser than copper, at 10.49 g/cm³. Copper density is 8.96 g/cm³. Ignoring whatever the base metal is alloyed with, if the medallions are the same size, then the silver one should be heavier than the copper one.

I'd suspect the silver medallion is thinner than the copper medallion.
