Buy a card and receive something different? I bought a card(not ebay) but I suspect I am not going to get what I bought. Paid with PP. Will be deivered next week. I guess I should just wait for it to get here but am worried because it was expensive. Anyone have this happen? What was the outcome? TIA

I promise I'm not making fun of you, but is the only reason you think you'll get the wrong card because it was expensive?

To answer your question, it happens frequently, probably between .1% and 1% of the time, which works out to many times a day. For example, I ordered a Living Set card from Topps and got the adjacent one. I was able to work out an exchange with Topps, so it took considerably longer than I should have, but I eventually got the cards I was expecting.

Any particular reason why you think you will not get the card you purchased? Are you thinking it will be swapped out for one of lesser quality.

I've had instances where I bought a card on eBay that was centered and I got a card in the mail that was not centered and basically worthless to me (and others). Simply did a not as described return and lived my life....

Assuming you didn't use PP friends and family, you can always make a PP dispute if you get punked. If you did use friends and family, ask the nearest person to smack you.

I found out the seller was only on the site for a week. When I started asking questions they responded but never really answered the questions I asked. Then they stopped communicating and they closed their account after making a couple of quick sales.

I would record you opening the package and maybe even do it in front of your mailman.

Thanks dontippet, I had thought about doing the video. Its not coming via mail so it may be harder to catch them than the mailman. Will definitely record it.

Wait, it isn't coming via the mail? UPS, FedEx?? Closed what account, the PayPal account? What site did you purchase from. Even eBay sellers sometimes sign up and start selling right away,

I never buy a product from sellers with less than 50 feedbacks. Even if it's tempting.

Fedex, closed their account on the site they were selling on.

Why would you purchase an expensive card under those circumstances in the first place?
Seems like you rolled the dice and are now concerned they might be snake eyes.

This sounds a lot like the Facebook seller scams. They list a card at a good price and send a Paypal payment request through Facebook. You pay without realizing that it is Family & Friends payment. The seller closes their account and disappears. You never receive the card and have no way to recoup your money. It happened to me. Paypal and Facebook wouldn't do anything.

Exactly, my bad. It wasn’t Facebook, it was Etsy. Paid via PP, not F&F. It was in the wee hours of the morning and thought I needed to jump on it before someone else did. Bad idea. Someone suggeted to video the package opening. Would that do any good?

Why? You have absolute protection as a buyer. I've gotten some of my best deals from low feedback sellers.

    Morning,

Video is a waste of time unless it is going to be a Legal issue. I took video, snaps, at the Post Office with Postal Employee . This was a return that the Buyer sent back 9 Empty Flat Rate Envelopes, for 9 Cards that I had Combined shipping for, E-Bay let them print 9 Return tags on my dime! Then after opening Package #2 I realize where this is going, so I go to the Post Office and did as the Myth says, pictures, video, ect..

Uploaded all of it to E-Bay......2 days later they find for the Buyer, I'm out $400!

    Love E-Bay!

    YeeHaw!

It happened to me once. Seller sold to me and another buyer and sent us each the wrong card. He apologized, refunded us both and said to just keep the cards. If I recall correctly, the card I bought was in the $10-15 range and the one I got was in the same range.

I guess you also have some Etsy protection as well. Is buying cards on Etsy a thing?

  • ElvisPElvisP Posts: 1,066 ✭✭✭

Update- Opened a case with Etsy late last night and they issued a refund this morning. They had already put a note on the item that there could be a problem since the seller left Etsy. I guess that is why they issued the refund so quickly. Kudos to Etsy. Oddly the Fedex tracking shows a package was delivered yesterday afternoon but I didn’t get it. I was home all afternoon. It was signed for by someone I don’t know. Should I pursue this with Fedex or just let it go since I got the refund? This whole transaction stunk from the beginning. Lesson learned.

most likely they shipped an empty envelope to a different address in your hometown. oldie but goodie scam.

Yep--there is some sort of loophole where if it is delivered in your ZIP code, it'll show delivered, even if it didn't come to your house.

Thanks guys thought it was something like that.

How many of us went to etsy and see what cards were available?

I did! I thought it was only good for those oversized yarn wrapped letters in my living room, who knew?
