Proof Bust Quarter in Heritage Auction

Something you don't see very often--an 1833 NGC PR65 CAM Quarter. It's in the NY Signature Sale. It was purchased a few years back for $32.50 (in 1948). Any ideas what it will go for? I'll guess $53,000 - you know, about the price of a nice Franklin!

Wow!! I dont care how deeply or unattractively toned that piece was, I wouldn't have dipped it like that, it looks totally unnatural to me now, although still a very nice coin and a true rarity.

  • Thanks for pointing that out! I'd love to have that coin. I never have seen one. Like Dragon, I'd probably prefer the original toning. I'd probably never get a choice though, aren't there only a few of those? Proofs aren't even listed for 1833 in the Red Book.

BTW welcome back Brian! I was on vacation so missed your earlier posts.
