A little divot? It has two gaping partial holes (or otherwise chunks removed), numerous scratches, and environmental damage. It may have been cleaned and a ton of the detail is gone. Other than that, looks great.

My mistake around $150 you can get a half decent one. Unless it’s a semi key not really interested in that price.

It was listed for $47.99 or best offer. That doesn’t mean it sold anywhere near that.

Collect what you want, but you asked for opinions, and this isn’t a coin I’d want. Just because something is cheap doesn’t mean it’s a good buy. There are plenty of coins I don’t own because I’m not interested in the quality that comes with the price I can or am willing to pay. And if this particular piece is more valuable because it’s some variety, then all the more so I’m not interested in paying up for it.

Don't waste your money on coins like this.

That is not a coin I would consider at all. And I like early copper/large cents. If I found it metal detecting, of course I would keep it. But never purchase it.... Reasons clearly stated above. Cheers, RickO

Usually it would say best offer accepted and it didn’t.

The S-223 is popular because of the 1/000 mint error on the reverse.
Even if you want to buy a problem coin to save money, at least get one that plainly shows the fraction.

FWIW... I have coins in the G4-6 range too, but I try to stay consistent in avoiding coins that have too many problems... Here is an 1831 I recently purchased... these are the seller's pictures. This coin grades G6/5 and has decent color and surfaces. It was graded down for rim issues and that tick mark on Liberty's eye.

Edited to add: it's an R4 variety, so sometimes you take what you can get...
