A medal never look more beautiful to me, unless maybe my uncles purple heart from WW II.

    Irish Mike - Did you know that the purple heart for wounds ,was first developed in the Revolutionary War by non other then George Washington. At that time it was just a piece of ribbon, but a wound in the defense of ones country is a true badge of courage. The beautiful firemans badge is another symble of courage and fidelity to duty, that is and should be, honored by all citizens of the Republic. Bear is proud of our fire crews , police and all who serve past and present and future in the military.

    bear, thanks for the interesting info, I didn't know that. I see I posted this in the wrong forum. Getting to be a nasty habit of mine. I will outside of NYC all week starting today, I hope to get a chance to tour the site where so many incredible human beings showed us what real courage is.
