Can’t speak for others but I block the cert numbers as an added layer of protection against counterfeiters. In this case if someone is going to counterfeit an 1850 $ I don’t want them using my cert number to do it.
That makes some sense, although it appears they just dig up HA archives typically.

Anything to slow down the crooks. That 1850 is superb by the way. Good luck with the hunt Brishen.

Always liked Seated Liberty dollars. Found it interesting that three times as many Morgan Dollars were minted
in 1878 alone as in the entire 34 year run of Seated Dollars. The Morgan series was minted at a ratio of about 100 to 1 compared to the Seated series with a Seated survival rate likely much worse.

An 1860 that was owned by me in the late 1990's or early 2000's and has appeared at auction before and since. Here are photos, that don't show how nice the luster is, by Heritage in 2011 from here:

An engraved 1870 sold on Ebay in 2003 and badly photographed with the old Sony Mavica and I described it this way:
"An 1870 Seated Liberty Silver Dollar that might be called a Love Token. It has VF detail and has been skillfully engraved in the left obverse field with "June 3 1845" with the right field having what looks like the initials "F.P.M & F.E.M.". Since it is on an 1870 dated coin, it may have been for a 25th wedding anniversary. The initials later had some intentional, lighter lengthwise scratches partially defacing them."
