1898 Great Britain Farthing, Blackened At Mint ?

I found this today while searching my stuff and saw this one. It was so dark I had to take a picture just to see
what shape its in and what it was....lol
I was searching Ebay and ran across listings for this but "blackened at the mint" Is this one? And if so
why did they do that? The mint that is..... Is it worth grading? To me it looks AU58

I lightened it up a tad to be able to see it.

I thought to add a little larger images.

I've heard that they were darkened at the mint to reduce confusion with the 1/2 sovereign.
Krause states the dates include 1897 thru 1900.

Thanks for the info. I’ll look further to see if it’s a high enough grade to warrant grading

Could it be that it has just toned for some "obscure" reason (pun intended) ?
I would not submit this one... it would not be economical
