2010 TOPPS GOLD Baseball Cards (gold borders)

Does anyone know how the "gold" cards were distributed/sold by Topps in 2010? Were they randomly inserted within regular/base packs? Are they more valuable than the standard (white borders) version of the cards? I know that each of the gold cards is numbered (#### of 2010 printed), but I don't know how "collectible" of "special" that makes them. Any thoughts?

It makes them VERY special. They had Topps Gold sets from 1992-94 (I already have the first two and I hope to soon get the 1994 one) which were one (or more) per pack inserts; even at that rate there were roughly oh, 10% at most gold cards versus regular ones. So most definitely the 2001-present(?) cards are indeed way more valuable than the regular cards.Since 2001 (I don't know if they still do this off the top of my head) they've brought back Topps Gold (no doubt to commemorate their then 50th Golden Anniversary) and serial numbered them out of that year. If you can somehow get a whole set of them that would be quite a prize indeed.

Thanks, Estil. Here's a specific example. The PSA Price Guide specifies "$140+" as the value of a 2010 Topps Buster Posey rookie card in a PSA 10 holder. It does not list a value for the exact same Posey card printed with "gold borders". So, how much would you estimate the PSA 10 gold version to be worth? Any ideas?

Not really...my specialty is 70s/80s/90s sets. And I only do PSA (7) cards for 1970s key cards mainly to ensure they're not trimmed or compromised or something.

There’s one being auctioned on eBay right now. Watch where it finishes, and that’ll be a good benchmark for you. It’s currently at $315, but over 3 days left. I’d guess it’ll finish around $6-700, but wouldn’t be surprised if it breaks $1000.

Thank you all for the helpful advice and the helpful links to click on. I'm kinda thinking that if Batpig is right and the current auction might end near $1000, then I'd be foolish to really try to win the auction at that inflated price. [That just seems like a lot to pay for a 10-yr-old card.] Again, thank you all and I'll keep an eye on the current auction.

Like I said I'm into sets and just recently I somehow lucked out and found and was able to somehow afford a 1994 Pinnacle Museum Collection set (without the five send-ins). And that was a limited edition of 6500. So I can imagine how next to impossible it'd be to make a set of 2001-present Topps Gold, which only a little over of 2000 of each card exist and depending on year is 650-700ish cards.
