Does anybody know a good source for standing liberty quarters?

I am finishing a 20th century type set and need a standing liberty quarter in ms 64 or 65 fh or near full head well struck common date. Coin must have exceptional luster fresh surfaces and very well struck, under $500

Check Great Collections, David Lawrence Rare Coins, and www.collectorscorner.com.

I am confused, in your now closed CAC thread you posted " I have been collecting for 30 years" and "I have been a diamond dealer 40 years". I would think that someone with your years of dealing and collecting experience would already have the contacts and knowledge of where to find the coins you seek.

In defense of @robbylu52 , there are certain "specialists" that most collectors may not be aware of, and perhaps it's information like this that he's seeking. For example, years ago, the "go to" guy for Standing Lib Quarters was the late J.H. Cline. Many of us on the forum know that Gerry Fortin is the guy who literally "wrote the book" on Seated Dimes, and has wonderful expertise in Seated coinage of all denominations along with other coins. Keep in mind that @robbylu52 is brand new to this forum, so like other collectors who are not on the forum, he may not have known about these specialists, despite having collected for decades. As part of that, it sounds like the price point he collects at is like that of the majority of collectors, and unlike us on the forum, they know very little about who to go to for various specific coins.

    A nice weekend to all.

I think that's fair. It's also worth pointing out that I run into people all the time who have been "collecting for 30 years" and, in all that time, they only bought coins from the local auction house and/or the local B&M. Some people won't even deal with B&M's because they think that the auction is wholesale.

[Of course, that is also why such a claim of longevity really means nothing in terms of expertise. I've been successfully dealing for 20+ years and Jessup thinks I'm an idiot. ;) ]

1917 Type I are plentiful with full head,
although that should be easy to see from the price guide.

Don't buy into that "full head hype".

Even if one decides it's not worth it to pay for the designation, the OP's consideration of near-FH is certainly reasonable. There are definitely coins with very flat heads that (at least in my opinion) are rather unappealing for how poorly the head is struck. 80 or 90 or 100% FH may not be a huge difference and there could be value in getting a 90% instead of paying for a designated FH, but the idea of FH, even if not going after a true FH, is worthwhile.

It was a joke based on the OPs disdain for FS nickels.

To answer your question I got back into coin collecting after a 25 year hiatus. I used to deal with Norman Pullen Ellesmere numismatics and Larry Shepherd. In my return to this great hobby I have buying strictly from DLRC so I don’t have new contacts

Always fondly remember Ellesmere saying to buy rarities over high grade common dates
