Asking Modern BKB collectors - Thoughts on 2012 Marquee BKB?

I came across a local source that has an opened case of 2012 Marquee basketball. Is this a product worth getting aggressive and making an offer on the whole case? I see they sell for around $500-$600 each on ebay. Decent RC line-up. Is there any decent upside left? If it was a main brand like Optic or Prizm I wouldn't hesitate, but I'm not familiar which BKB brands are popular.

I used to buy these for $30 from DA Cardworld back in 2013/2014. What a world, lol.

    Pros:

    1. These boxes are a fun rip because they are similar to the modern day Chronicles set in that they have multiple RC's of all the key rookies on the checklist.

    2. The rookie checklist is loaded.

    3. The cards look great with interesting designs and creative acetate, die-cuts, leather cards.

    Cons:

    1. The set was not really popular at the time and ended up being a one-off product. Unless you count its re-emergence as a subset in the Chronicles set.

Basically, if you are buying this product you are mainly making a bet on the rookie class and the overall market. I don't know if the set ever really gains appreciation from the greater collecting public. So, if you can get the case at a reasonable price relative to other 2012 products than I say go for it. Otherwise, I would not be in a hurry to overpay for it if you have access to other 2012 products at better prices.

Steve - Thanks for the great feedback. The brand did not seem familiar to me so the one and done deal makes sense. The checklist is loaded with RC variants. I need to feel him out to see how serious he is about selling.

I used to buy 2013-2014 Topps Chrome FB Blasters all day long from D&A for $8-$10 for bulk. I built so many refractor parallel sets for a decent costs and made money on the flip. I cringe when I see what they sell for now.

If you can scoop it for 2-300 a box and flip on ebay, why not.. If your plan is to hold indefinitely I'd pass.

If I were to buy it at let’s say $400/box, I would hold and gamble that the Lakers play the Nets in the finals. I need to see if it has Kobe in any tough inserts or autos.

At $200-$300 box I would rip. That is a fraction of the cost of modern product and this one had decent RCs.
