I consider the new silver dollars part of their respective series, but I collect them & feel that lacking them constitutes an incomplete set for those series. JMHO.
Always looking for attractive rim toned Morgan and Peace dollars in PCGS or (older) ANA/ANACS holders!

This coin is a commemorative. The originals were legal tender that was actually used as money. These new commemorative don’t have the history of the originals.
The 2021 Morgan Dollars and 2021 Peace Dollar are NOT commemoratives. The production information and the COA received with them indicated they are produced per spec by the US Mint and are legal tender, so these are absolutely "real" US Dollars, tho I doubt anyone in their right mind would spend one -- Same with an OG Morgan - still "spendable" but I doubt any one would - nor would anyone receiving it know what to do with it.
The question now is how to categorize them - New/old or continuation...
Regarding the mint marks - while a can appreciate the nostalgia of including them (especially the CC - I got samples) I do believe that the mint mark should be representative of the mint that produced them. I don't really know the history behind the use of privy marks but I assume there is some precedent for that. Frankly, I would have rather see a W mark - at least that is still a working mint location.
Not only is it not part of the original series, it may well be the first time the mint commemorated the END of a coin series. Clearly a money grab because there are way more Morgan collectors than Peace collectors (sorry Peace lovers but you know it's true!), and more mintmarks to "commemorate", as opposed to only one mint having made Peace dollars in 1921. Ka-ching.
I wish, but no. They are Privy Marks, not Mint Marks. They are representatives of the Mints, and not minted at those mints so at best, that makes them a commemorative.

I know it’s very different circumstances, but it is legal tender and similar design so I vote yes. I know it doesn’t feel the same obviously, but it is a real mint product.

*Legal tender with an asterisk; If you go to the bank, they'll be happy to give you any legal tender quarters, dimes, and the occasional silver dollar if you're lucky. Will they be giving you any 2021 Morgans or Peace dollars

Sup. Morgans are cool - So are Ducatis.
The originals didn't have the history of the originals when they were first minted, either.
As a Morgan collector I personally consider it a commemorative, having said that to each his own.

To complicate things...
P Morgan and Peace...yes
D Morgan...Yes
S Morgan...Yes
CC Morgan...No
O Morgan...No
There was a gap from 1904 to 1921 in the dated Morgans, so if the 2021 is not part of the set, than neither should the 1921 Morgans.
