LaMarcus Aldridge could've been another Hank Gathers

Brooklyn Nets big man LaMarcus Aldridge is retiring from the NBA at the age of 35 after dealing with an irregular heartbeat in the last game he played. While Aldridge is okay now, he made the tough choice to walk away from the game in order to put his “health and family first.”

Thank you for posting this. His statement is definitely worth reading.

Edited to add: Aldridge had a previously diagnosed heart condition , for which he underwent surgery. As far as I know, that was many years ago. So essentially he experienced this and subsequently decided to make the call to immediately retire instead of risking his death.

Heart trouble is a very scary thing to have because the heart controls everything, it keeps you alive. If something goes wrong with your heart, you have serious trouble. He made a good decision, you don't play around with something like that.

He made the right choice. I remember how devastating Reggie Lewis' death was in NE.

George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.
