NGC Photos...

why are they so bad? When I run a cert lookup, the photos, if they have them, are usually so dark they are practically worthless. Why is that? Are they uploaded by the coin owners? Am I doing something wrong?

It may be the era it was taken in. My understanding is that their current TV competitor is very good.

Perhaps you have an example you would like to share, also don't forget rule #2 . Here is a photo that NGC took of one I submitted, does not seem overly dark to me.

Yeah, much better! I was just looking at a Washington on ebay with bad pics, so I look up the cert and get this...I hope somebody didn't pay for these pictures.
The usual NGC photos are slab shots. Maybe scans. For the good quality photos its their fairly new photo vision service which is like their trueview.

I am glad to hear they have improved the service! Those older slab shots are so-so at best.
@scotty4449 the photo you posted of the 1972 qtr is the photo that NGC takes of every slab, this one is darker than most but it is not a photo that the submitter pays for just a curtesy photo done by NGC. The photo I posted is their photo vision service.

Thanks @coinbuf, good to know!
I've tried NGC's Photo Vision Service. While it's...ok, it's not to the level of PCGS's TrueView. Here's a few NGC Photo Vision examples. Their images appear to be over saturated and grainy.
Lablover, I likey the 52😉

they are to help verify slab and coin to combat counterfeits, and they do that job
