Marriage Medal Repurposed

This medal design, by Alexis Joseph Depaulis, seems to have had a long life in French matrimony. The reverse apparently was meant for personalized engraving. This particular medal has a date of 1816. However, around the rim, was inscribed, "JC-YR Unis Le 27 Aout 1921." Maybe a famiy heirloom.
