I collect many medals. Anything I find attractive.
This post made me pull out some boxes.
Box number 1 is full of Wiener cathedral medals.
    Probably my main interest.

Like others, I don't collect them per se, but do have a few that struck me. This one is my favorite. I notice several others like the same. Not to mention that there are several gorgeous medals listed.

President John F. Kennedy Appreciation Medal. Manufactured by the U.S. Mint for use by President Kennedy. Designed by Frank Gasparro. Mintage 300. One had to earn the gratitude of the President to be awarded/gifted one.

President Kennedy Appreciation Medal with unbroken chain of ownership document (redacted for privacy). This medal was awarded in Dublin, Ireland. Comes in a Presidential Case. I have not seen another one like this.

The Seven Kennedys. Four of the seven have an unbroken chain of ownership from President Kennedy to the original recipient to yours truly. The MS 63 specimen is from the Robert L. White Collection. Robert L. White, assembled John F. Kennedy memorabilia that grew to be regarded as one of the largest and most significant private collections.

The Jayne Specimen (2nd medal from the bottom right) is the most intriguing as an uncashed President Kennedy check reinforces the provenance document.

The most satisfying aspect of the President Kennedy provenance is that when I decide to sell, the unbroken chain of ownership can continue to the new buyer. This is why collecting Presidential Numismatic Artifacts is most satisfying.

I picked this one up a while ago. I thought the design was compelling, and I recently discovered why.

It seems the obverse portrait was originally used on the 1917 Catskill Aqueduct Completion medal, an HK-667 So-Called Dollar that was struck by the recently created Medallic Art Company.

After making this medal, in 1933 Medallic Art began using the image of the young woman on the obverse as their corporate logo, which it still uses today.

I had no idea the subject of the medal above began on a So-Called Dollar, but knowing that now, it all makes sense as to why I was intrigued by the design.

Here's my new cathedral medal by Bianchi in silver. Received today.

This is probably my 5th copy of Winchester Cathedral received the other day.

I was the under bidder on the Bianchi silver @Knell . I would have given it a stronger run if I didn't have the bronze already.

I guess thanks for letting me win the Bianchi silver medal. I think last time I lost bidding on Leopold Wiener's medal you posted on this thread and you were the winner.
Thanks again, I hope you and @flatwoods enjoy your cathedral medals collections as much as I do.

Rare 14KT gold medal from the 1918 Mid Pacific Carnival held on the island of Oahu, Territory of Hawaii. This medal is part of my Hawaiiana Collection. The ribbon is in original condition and part of the gold medal. Not bad for a 103 year old medal.

Some of my research finding with the help of the University of Hawaii archives. Announcement of the six mile relay race.

Description of the six mile relay race on the race day.

Chamber of Commerce limits the 1918 Mid Pacific Carnival to two days.

Summary of the 1918 Mid Pacific Carnival

I still have not located the names of the winners for this six miles relay race.

13 different ones, Jim. The more recent ones, post Nixon, seem to be more difficult to find.

I don't collect medals/medallions per se, but I have bought several Fliteline or Robbins medallions that have flown on various space missions. Both medallions are essentially metallic reproductions of the mission patch. On the reverse typically are the name of the crew members and the launch and landing dates. Flitelines were flown on Gemini missions. Robbins medallions started at Apollo 7 and continue on to this day. Flitelines come in a variety of metals, be it sterling silver, "white" metal and gold plated. Robbins medallions are generally made out of sterling silver although there are some 14 carat gold ones too. All Fliteline medallions were flown on their missions. All Robbins medallions up through Apollo 15 were flown. Starting Apollo 16 while hundreds of Robbins were still minted per mission, only a fraction (those with the earliest numbers, e.g. 1 - 80 etc.) were carried on the missions.

Here is a Fliteline from Gemini 10. In size it is somewhere between a quarter and a half dollar.

Here is a Robbins medallion. It is roughly the size of a half dollar.
