Thanks everyone who commented. The really satisfying thing about this find is that I live in Spain. Access to US coinage is a bit limited. This collector I am aquainted with mentioned he had a bag of Memorial cents he wanted rid of. I assumed he had gone through them and offered him 2 Euros for the bag (when I counted them there were 280 coins) which he accepted. The 1971 was the only variety coin in the bag so it must have been overlooked. Lucky me
