Home Trading Cards & Memorabilia Forum

Man do I love the internet.

Woke up this morning, made breakfast at 6am eastern time, got my bagel and coffee, and took out my phone to purchase a card of my three favorite players as a kid.

Without the internet, I would have had to eat breakfast, get on a plane to Germany, rent a hotel, go to a card show, go back to the hotel, and wait for a flight back to America the next day. Without mentioning I don't speak a lick of German.

Thank you all you fedex, UPS, and US Mail carriers who have made my life that much more enjoyable.

Nice item! The 1978 & 1986 Herba-Verlag sets are really tough to get in high grade because they are so thin and susceptible to surface bends regardless of whether they have been removed from an album or not. Considering almost all of the ones I have seen have album damage on the back side, that one looks great!

Thank you for that informative response.

Are these cards hand cut, because this one looks pretty bad on the borders. Kind of crooked if you asked me. I doubt a printing company did that bad a job cutting a card.
Can I trim this to a more respectable look and will PSA grade the card, or just the auto ?

I have never submitted a Herba-Verlag, so any thoughts or comments would be appreciated. Thanks.

Yes, hand-cut from a sheet of 4. Here is a visual reference for you. Take a look at all the photos in this link:

So why are these tough to get in high grade if these sheets are selling on Amazon ?
Seems like anyone can buy them, cut them, and submit.

I haven't seen any actually on amazon, just the ad suggesting to look there for them. So yes, it looks like you can probably get uncut sheets from ebay for approx. $200 or a little under, including shipping. I hadn't seen those available last time I looked but now there are some available. However, can't say that they wouldn't have surface dents/bends in them until you have them in hand, and being so thin, the ones I've seen before all had surface issues that did not show up in photos but did when in person.

Was Zidane's rookie in 1992 only a regional issue in France, or was it distributed in other parts of Europe, South America and North America ? Thanks.

My understanding was that original retail distribution of the 1991-92 Panini Foot set was France, Belgium and Switzerland, and then they later made their way to Spain and Italy, but it has been a very long time since I looked into that so I could be remembering inaccurately.

Do you have a link to find soccer rookies ? Wondering about Rumminegge.

No, I just follow links to every set I can discover within the Euro market and do the research. In nearly every case, once you have convinced yourself you've discovered the true rookie card and/or year, you'll later find an obscure one issued a couple years earlier than you thought possible. It is a challenging process compared to North American sports, but I enjoy the learning and discovery process.
