a 1985 TT Clemens in psa 10 sold for 22.6k last night. I only have sales info from the last 3 months. is that the most ever paid for a Tiffany card?

just curious.

I believe it is. The highest Clemens before had been around $10K. The McGwire 10 had sold around $12K.

Call me crazy, but I think the Clemens has room to go a lot higher. It's a low-ish pop in a 10 (46, out of 1,400+ graded). Only 3% of graded Clemens have gotten a 10, vs. 26% of other 1985 Topps Tiffany. So it's not going to climb in pop much, and there haven't been any auctions really since the Fall, aside from last night's. So the way things have been going of late, and I never thought I'd say this, but I expected the card last night to hit $30K or more.

(Full disclosure - I have one in a 10, so maybe I'm a bit biased....)

I appreciate everyone not buying the Clemens or Griffey cards I had for sale here 6-7 months ago!

I agree the Clemens has more room. 86 Bonds has a pop of 441 i believe. they have been selling with some regularity at 16k. at a pop of 46, the clemens is significantly more rare. there was a pretty big run up during the day yesterday. i think it started at around 13k yesterday morning and got to 22.6k about 3 hours before close, but no more movement. i thought it would go over 25k for sure.

I think the only one which could go higher would be the McGwire. I think POP is still around 35 or so. I am fairly confident that one would hit 30k at auction. The Mac and Clemens don't go up for auction all that often though.

I would imagine the next clemens will eclipse 25K.

hard to believe these numbers for 80's cards.

I wish i had sent all my tiffany rookies out for grading a few years ago before the price increases. I have all the keys, but most are raw. I did manage to acquire a PSA 10 clemens though. glad I did.
