the ACU Wildcats are dancing again. two years ago we made it as a #15 seed and got slashed by Kentucky.

well, we're back. this time we've moved up a notch to #14. i'm not going to go so far as to predict an upset, but i'm hoping that the end result will be a little prettier. 23-4 on the season and we were competitive against two big schools that are in the tournament (lost to Arkansas by 13 and Texas Tech by 7).

i can't even begin to explain how surreal it is to be a born and raised Texan and watch your school (7 years removed from Division II) play the state's most renown university on the biggest stage. my ultimate wish on Saturday is for them to play to their potential, win or lose. do not, under any circumstance, allow the moment -- or the Texas Longhorns -- to intimidate you. i've seen them play a few times in person and i do not think that is going to happen. they're a pretty intrepid bunch. top-10 nationally in scoring defense.

and for the NE Patriots fans on the board, Anthony Pleasant's son is still a starter on the team.

go Cats!

@galaxy27 I was born and raised in Massachusetts. I've spent the last fifteen plus raising a family in Texas. Anthony Pleasant is a large part of how Belichik established the bedrock for the dynasty. So this thread checks all the boxes.

Wildcats! That's cool galaxy! I was a member of your arch rivals, the ASU Sun Devils, for one whole day. I was really excited about it because I was going to be on the track team running the high hurdles AND my friends told me that ASU had the hottest girls of any school anywhere! BONUS! So, off I went to tour the campus. After seeing all the sights of Tempe my buddies and I decided to go bowling! Well....one of my buddies (?) decided to play a trick on me at the bowling ally. He pulled my chair out from under me while was attempting to sit down! Nice guy. Anyway, my tailbone took it hard and I never ran another race. But.....I was a Sun Devil for a day. And..that jerk was right. The girls at ASU were...Oooh La La!

I'm not sure I'm ready to go that far but TBH for the past several years his "making NBA players" first 'tude has really rubbed me the wrong way. Maybe we need a fiery populist sort of guy with rock star crowd appeal who will put Kentucky First who will actually encourage players to stay in school rather than be in such a rush for the NBA.

Let me put it to ya this way, do you see any banners in Rupp Arena mentioning how many UK players were taken in the first round of the draft? NO. Our banners are for Final Four appearances and for retired numbers...which are based on how the player did for UK, not what they did afterwards in the NBA/ABA.

as i told Kyle (Larkin) via text during the game, the great thing about sports is that even when you're at a decided disadvantage athletically, no one determines how much heart you play with except you

we were never going to win an 86-85 contest. i told another buddy that the under in that game was about the safest bet one could ever make, because a) we're not used to playing the type of athletes UT has and thus open looks are going to be few and far between, but b) we're going to expend every ounce of energy we have and tie them in knots when they have the basketball. and that's pretty much what happened.

and to top it off, the son of a former New England Patriot who shoots 58% at the charity stripe makes two with a second left to win the game

i'm 49 now and regardless of the outcome when my team plays, i'm usually over it about 10 minutes after the game ends. not tonight. this one will stay with me until i die. easily the proudest moment of my life as a sports fan.

    Congrats@galaxy27!

I might have to wash my eyes out after watching this game but a win is a win and I was rooting hard for you. They deserved to win. Is Gayman a double agent? He made me nervous all night

lol thanks man. it's one of the most bizarre box scores you'll ever see. we were a 14 and beat a 3 shooting 29% from the field. we had.......wait for it..........27 more FG attempts than Texas did. we turned it into a rock fight, but that's the formula that was required for us to win. but again, ultimately it comes full circle back to who wants it more. Texas has multiple bigs that are going to be NBA draft picks and we hammered them on the offensive boards all night. and we're one of the smallest -- if not the smallest -- teams in the tournament. and their trio of stud guards were discombobulated all night, turning the ball over 15 times by themselves.

now we play UCLA. just checked the line and we're only 4.5-pt dogs. you just can't make this stuff up

only caught the second half of today's game against UCLA and it looked like our legs were at about 70% after leaving it all out on the court against Texas. but it was a gravy game.

i know we have a lot of peeps on here from Cali, so if anyone roots for the Bruins, congrats. they had too much length, too much athleticism, and were far more disciplined with the basketball than Texas was. hope they keep advancing.

finally, i thought i'd tie this thread up in a bow with a shot i found from the UT game. this epitomizes the type of character my school looks for when recruiting student-athletes, so allow me to recant what i said up above...........i'm more proud of what's taking place in this picture than the W against the Horns

Have to be honest I had to look up ACU Wildcats. Congratulations on making it into the you and winning a game. Looks like they lost to a better team. Congratulations on a great season.
